What Type Visa For 6 Week Visit

Featured Replies

Hi

My Thai wife and I (USA, 47 years old) are planning to visit her sick mother in Thailand for 6 weeks. I have never stayed longer than 4 weeks before. I don't want to leave the country while I am there. What kind of visa should I apply for and how can I apply.

Thanks

Mike

Apply for a single-entry tourist visa at a Thai consulate, in person or by mail. The consulate will give you an application form to fill out or they may have it on their website, and you have to enclose the number of passport photographs they specify, the application fee and of course your passport. Upon arrival in Thailand with this visa you will receive permission to stay for 60 days.

I found the following on the Royal Thai Consulate-General,New York Web site. Is this the "Tourist Visa (Maximum 2 Entries) $35 USD per entry" that will give me 60 continuous days in Thailand?

"Type Current Fee

Transit Visa (Maximum 2 Entries) $30 USD per entry

Tourist Visa (Maximum 2 Entries) $35 USD per entry

Non-Immigrant Visa

Single entry $65 USD

1 Year Multiple entry $175 USD

Non-Immigrant Type O-A "Long Stay" Visa $175 USD

(For 1 Year Multiple entry)

If submitting applications in person, fees are payable by cash (please bring the exact amount, we do not give change) or money order.

If submitting applications by mail, fees are payable by money order to "Royal Thai Consulate-General,New York" only, credit card , personal or company checks are NOT acceptable."

Required documents for tourist visa

One application form

Two photos (color, size 4 x 4.5 cm)

Passport (valid for no less than 6 months)

Visa fee

If an applicant wants to have passport mailed back, We require you to enclose a self-addressed envelope size 6"x9" or large enough to fit all passports with sufficient postage stamps. Metered stamps will not be accepted. ( Recommened using USPS Express mail )

Yes, it is. For your requirements, ie 6 weeks in Thailand, the tourist visa for 1 entry is all you need.

Have a nice trip and enjoy your stay in Thailand.
