Hey everybody!!!

My name is Janos and I am Hungarian citizen. Right now I am working in India with couples of nationalities. In December we plan to do a trip from Singapore to Thailand and I started to check out how can we travel overland through Indochina. Probably I´ll travel with citizens from Costa Rica, Tunisia and Portugal. I found out that the Portuguese do not have to have visa at all, I can get it on the border, the Tunisian and the Costa Rican citizens have to apply for visa here in India, I guess.

My question is first of all that is the above written little story right? My second question is that in case I reach the Thai-Malaysian border at Padang Besar can I apply for visa? And can I apply for a double entry visa there? If yes how much is that?

That´s everything I wanted to ask. Thank you very much for the answers, best wishes for everyone who is travelling around here,

Janos

Pedang Besar is in Thailand. You have to go to a Thai Consulate outside Thailand to get a Visa. Suggest Penang.

If you do cross into Thailand at that border point you will be given a 30 day Visa Exempt stamp by Thai Immigration.

The Portugese will anyway. Not sure about Hungarian.

EDIT.

A Hungarian passport holder has to get a Visa On Arival . This will give you a stay of 15 days. Single entry only.

Not sure if you can do this at Pedang Besar or not.

According to this you can. 1,000 Baht.

Why don't you all apply for a tourist visa before leaving India. There are five consulates in India. See the following link for locations plus any other info you need for visas.

The last time I checked Padang Besar was still in Malaysia. :o

http://www.google.com/search?q=padang+besa...GL_enSA273BH273

and is the major crossing point between Thailand and Malaysia.

Sadao is on the Thai side of the border

Good pick up Astral , however it seems you are only 50% correct as the town on the Thai side of the border is also called Padang Besar.

Sadao is further along the border at a different checkpoint.

Astral, sorry but Litebeer is right. Pedang Besar is a 'minor' crossing and Sadao is the 'major' crossing.

They are maybe 50 km apart - at the last major town before Malaysia, coming from Hat Yai, you turn right for Pedang Besar but carry on straight for the Sadao crossing.
