nogutsnoapplepie
What was the first piece of advice you got when you first settled in Thailand? Dead Jeff as he is now known said "Thai Girls don't give ed"!!! He was Canadian though.
muenwai2
The first piece of advice I recieved was not to trust any Thai. Fortunately that advice has proved to be groundless. In the 3 years I have lived here I have never been ripped off or cheated. If I chose I could eat and drink and holiday free because of the limitless generosity of the Thais in my neighbourhood (A suburb of Korat). I have even had construction work undertaken and payment refused but I have always insisted. Things may be different in Bangkok - sh*t city in my opinion. My advice would be: don't ever act or think you are superior to them. Only thing I have learnt is don't bother to ask directions
Khutan
I was 18 and on a footy end-of-season holiday: The advice was "Don't over-do it....... you are only allowed to take 3 girls back to your hotel room". Sadly I believed the advice giver.

taxidriver
What was the first piece of advice you got when you first settled in Thailand? My advice was, 'Make sure you tell them to use the meter when you get a taxi'. 'Make sure she is really a girl'. 'Buy a money belt'. I had trouble with the first one when I came here on holiday years ago,but it didn't bother me when I was a tourist. I never had trouble determining between girls and lady-boys. As for the thid, I wouldn't be seen dead wearing one of them.

GuestHouse
I was given two pieces of advice by two different people. My boss called me into his office gave me my assignment letter and then told me that in his experience the people who make the best go of Thailand are the people who carry their life with them to Thailand - "Live as you do at home and to the same standards of behaviour". The second piece of advice was from my first manager in Thailand, he formally greated me in the office with the corporate welcome pack and the corporate handshake. But on the first evening outing together from the office he told me his bit of advice. "Don't <deleted> with the locals" Both peaces of advice have been spot on! ThaiGeared_HighThaied
I have two advice and nothing left out from my side: -If you want to live in thailand, you have to little think, re-act, eat,... like a thai, you can't bring your values with you here, because they don't really match, and you will have tough time understanding and fitting into thai culture. -Learn thai, even you don't need it financialy, because you feel more at home, easier to deal with thais or at least you will be more accepted among thais

ThaiGeared_HighThaied
Don't believe a word a BG tells you.Apply the same common sense here as you use at home. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I don't agree with you completely, because hookers in western countries aren't in same situation as are BGs in Los. In west, they can go work in a grocery and make $1000, and they don't need to feed whole family. There isn't wellfare system in Los. Do you even consider that most Bgs think working in a bar in the only way to find a Husband, because thai men usually won't bother to support these type of women, considering Isaan man hardly can support themselves?
