Hi,

I am going over to cassova this year and I have read Khonwans spreadsheet and other threads!

However as things are always changing,I am lead to belive that you can expect about 10,000 tonnes per rai, however on the tv last week their was talk of 20,000 - 30,000 tonnes per rai..!!

Is their a new model that is giving higher returns?

if not can anyone suggest the best model to use currently.

And am I right in thinking that the price is now around 2000 baht per tonne?

I think you mean kilo,s and not tonnes , you can expect that sort of yield but most unlikely to get even close to it.

Ozzydom,

I have looked again at Khonwans spreadsheet and he clearly states 10 metric tonnes per rai,so I think I am on the right track with the weights..

As I stated previously, I saw this on television and I am hoping that someone who is currently growing can confirm if this may or may not be correct..

Nick, reread your OP ,you state 10,000 tonnes not 10 tonnes. :o

I think if you read Khonwans post you will see he talks about 4 or 5 tons over a year but about double that if you leave it for 18 months.

This is my first year growing it and hopefully will attain those kind of figures. The best I've been told of but can't confirm is 8 tons over 1 year.

The price last weekend in my area was 1.85 Baht/kilo

If only 10,000 tonnes were possible! Mind you, claims of 20-30 tonnes are just as fanciful in my opinion.

No idea if my soil is good or not but it's all I have to work with :o

There is a lot of man grown in my area so I assume it is suitable.

Having said that I think it is like many things in that the more you put in the more you get out so don't skimp on the fertilizer :D

I will know more in about 9 months time just how profitable my little venture is and I think that's the best policy. Give it a go and learn as you go.

I have planted the Rayong 72 strain

Not great advise, to much fertilizer can be worse than not enough, over fertilization , especially with Nitrogen (N) can lead to excessive top growth to the detriment of root or tuber growth and development .

Sorry about that. Should have said don't skimp on the right fertilizer. Most Thai growers can't afford it but know its value.
