Unfortunately routers must be port forwarded for many programs - Kazaa, Bit Torrent, Emule, even many internet phone programs - so it's a good thing to master if you can't use a simple USB modem. Dc will work in passive mode (not forwarded) but will be slow and restricted, as well as burdening the host computer if there are too many passive users. Most hubs will not allow passive users for this reason.

It takes some fettling to get the hang of it. I can't advise much as I don't have a router.

One thing however, when they say you need a static IP it is the IP between the router and computer, and is nothing to do with the changing IP that your Internet Service Provider gives you.

2 links to follow, apart from the web site above that kabal posted (which is the definitive port forwarding resource), below are DC specific info sites:

http://www.b.ali.btinternet.co.uk/DCPlusPl...ancedUsage.html

http://www.dslreports.com/faq/6518

All router users need to forward ports unfortunately.

Cheers

I forgot about the firewall. I use Zone Alarm free version (which is light on cpu) and it always asks for permission for DC when I reboot. To see if you are set up fine except for the firewall just disable it for a while. If all works then - ask in the hub for advice on setting it up properly. :o

Here's how my router is set:

Menu 15 - SUA Server Setup

Port # IP Address

------ ---------------

1. 411 192.168.1.100

2. 0 0.0.0.0

3. 0 0.0.0.0

4. 0 0.0.0.0

5. 0 0.0.0.0

6. 0 0.0.0.0

7. 0 0.0.0.0

8. 0 0.0.0.0

Does this look right?

I'm not really sure what I'm looking at there as I don't use a router. But it seems that you have forwarded port 411 to the location 192.168.1.100 - so long as that is a static address of your computer on your internal lan it should work. Most sites recommend that you use a high number port as many isp's block common filesharing ports so it might be an idea to forward another port number too, to the same internal address (192.168.1.100)

Then turn off your firewall and connet to the hub. Once you are set up correctly and all is working you can set up the firewall. By turning it off temporarily we will be sure that any problems are not due to the firewall.

Most people I know don't use the XP firewall, and disable it completely and use a different firewall. I use Zone Alarm free..... But anyway there are people in the hub who can advise on firewall settings once you are properly connected.

By the way, everyone should be able to connect to the hub with or without firewall or router and join the other users in chat and then get advice on how to set up.

If anyone uses TRUE, a regular firewall, and usb modem - set up takes only 2 mins once connected.

Hi all. At the moment we have no real share limit(so that noobs can connect to us first, then add later). At the moment the POLITE minimum is 2 gig which means that after a few days of trying the hub out your share should be AT LEAST 2 gig.Now the way these hubs work are that if we all share different files it will grow and grow into something good.Yet if have no NEW content then we'll all have identical share folders.

Whats happening now is that we have the noobs coming in with little or no share files then downloading already shared files and then sharing these files(meaning we have no fresh content). What I suggest is that after the few days browsing period is up, that the minimum share should be(and this is a MINIMUM......not just a figure to be reached to satisfy the rules) 10 gig of files(hopefully a large percentage of movies and t.v. series(to remind us of home lol)).Iknow what your all thinking....do you have 10 gig of files??? Just copy some of your vcd's to your share folder and hey presto...Bob really is your uncle!!

So what say we?

10 gig after a few days of trying the hub out? :o

Fair enough. Certainly need to keep the content fresh which means ripping some DVDs (I think with VCDs it's just a case of copying and pasting the files contained).

Apparently the best ripper is:

  • 2 weeks later...

I guess you have to rip the DVDs first to MPEG/DIVX format before they are ready to be shared.

As said, I thought that because it's a local hub download speed should be quite high. The download speeds are actually the same as if you download from a hub outside Thailand.

The download speeds are especially disappointing, because if I download straight from the site (mp3search, several porn sites) downloads are on average above the 1600 kbps (zipcode 10400, 2560/512 true).

The local download testfiles (16MB) on trueinternet.co.th even hit the 500 kbytes ocasionally.

I got less than satisfying transfer rates on:

Kazaa

Shareaza

Pretty ok on lemonwire (ave 200 kbps).

I too have found speeds pretty <deleted> recently. I don't want to mention names, but some people are using all their bandwidth split with other hubs. For Thailand users going into more than a couple of hubs amounts to leeching as no one will ever get good speeds from you. Why not use those hubs (or other Fileshare systems) and then come into the Thai hub to share and get others files locally. We do need to get fresh files in from the outside, but being in the Thai hub and only giving speeds of a few kbs will ruin the hub.

One thing though, any DL bandwidth you are using in Thailand does not slow your international DLs as it is international bandwidth that is slow. I use BT with Bit Comet and limit the Upload to 20 kbs. I maintain a good share ratio with BT as I leave the file seeding for a day or so to get a share ratio of 1:1.2. I don't go to other hubs at the same time as the Thai hub. Also when I am not DL I leave the Thai hub on share thus giving full Bandwidth for you people.

I'm getting a bit hacked off with people who don't give good bandwidth on our hub too.

As I don't have a lot of space on my hard drives (one 40gb partitioned into c&d with d down to 16gb free) and (one slave 8gb with 7.96 free) it's going to be hard for me to put a lot on at one time. How much space does a 2 disc vcd take up and how much does a dvd normally take up? I'm willing to load them but I've been trying to get a lot of music lately and it's starting to chew up some free space. I'm not the cluiest on doing this so any help is appreciated. I'm not going to any other hubs as this one is keeping me busy so anything you guys upload from me will be straight with the only limitation I have of being connected with True at 512mb. Have noticed with some people I get low readings of 2-3kb (and close from them as soon as I see that) but with most are in the 20-40 range which is great.

Big thank you to the people that put this together. :o

Cheers,

Kringle

Any TT&T Hi-Net users using this?

Oh, and how do you find your IP address again?

Ipconfig will not run for me for some weird reason.

Did you get this working on Hi-net?

I am on hi-net could log into the server, people could download from me, but I could not get anyones file lists,

seems like I need port forwarding set, but I do not know how to access the Hi-net router, or if they allow port forwarding.

any 999 hi net users got it working?

Best way to set up once you get connected to the hub is to ask in the hub - the main chat screen will work fine without port forwarding.

Also you can check to see if your modem/router needs forwarding at portforward.com. We have other links too.... but goto the chat screen first anyway.

Most users have a problem getting file lists at first even without porting problems. I think that the problem is DC++ indexing your share files as after a while of being connected (sometimes hours) it suddenly seems to come right. Just leave DC on and connected overnight and see if you still have problems in the morning.

Kringle and others, if space is a problem then you are welcome to DL a few movie files in the hub and share those. However we hope that people will get new files from elsewhere too such as Kazaa, Bit Torrent, E-mule or other hubs once they get the hang of it. Also, you can buy a new HD for less than 3000 baht, or an external Hard Drive if you use a lap top. Most of us have done that.

I just added:

Unfaithful

Little Black Book

How to Irritate People (very early John Cleese)

The Forgotten (coming in)

Ally McBeal series 1

Cypher (Lucy Liu in a movie by the Cube Director/writer)

Hey Pandit.

Already sharing 'the forgotten' if you've only just started it?

Also I can't see it being that difficult to find 10 gig minimum of SHARE or somewhere to store it.If not, the newcomers aren't actually sharing anything, they're just leeching the files already being shared.

If I have to find the time to search for and download new movies I can't see why this isn't done by everyone. Anyone not sharing 10 gig by a set date (if been on the hub for more than a few days) should be kicked for leaching. :o

p.s. just started bt'ing..

I notice that if I do a direct download, I get over 2000kbps regularly as well. The problem lies (and I don't profess to completely understand why) with a. the way DC sharing restrictions work and b. the way dsl works in respect to upload vs. download bandwidth.

I really don't know why this is happening, but I can attempt to describe what happens. When I use DC++ and connect to the Thai Hub, if a user who is on a typical true adsl link shares to me at an unrestricted bandwidth, (or the closest you can get to full without crippling your connection - normally 40K for me) the most you might see is about 30-40K down. I think this is because of that fact that we all have only 512K upload on the DSL. Couple this with DC's (and BT's I assume) share policy (you can only get as much as you give), no one can ever pull more than what would equate to a 512k link, even in the case of someone with a bigger upload pipe, because I can only upload at 512K myself. Even if I have 5 people willing to share with me at full speed and my download pipe can handle it, I just cant do it because the client won't let me.

So we are basicall all stuck at 512K DL. This is why a direct download from a web site ,for example, is full speed (it is not being resticted by BT sharing policy).

Just a note: I notice people like Pandit have 10 slots... if you download from him you get between 3-6K downloads. (Since he is basically dividing up his 512kbps into 10 channels).

I see the benefit of the restriction, but I also think there are times when is sucks! I use netmedic to monitor my network traffic, and whenever I am doing DC++ to Thai hub, I am wasting about 1500bps down, because I can only upload at about 4-500kps. It seems silly, really! Why can't we give it all we got, (ie 512k) and take as much as we can get (2.5mbps)?

I know about share ratios, etc. But is seems that those that really do wanna share (in particular on Thai Hub) could get a lot more out of it with another nonrestrictive client.

Anyways....

aint me with 10 slots!!

I think you are talking about Pla and we have all noted his excess slot ratio and slow speeds. He keeps promising to make adjustments......

I open 2 slots for UL and a third if someone has a slow connection.

I find I can BT at the same time and limit the BT UL to 15 kbs... so hubbers still get good speed.
