Anybody heard about whales appearing in Bangsaen??

Alive and according the Misses enjoying themselves like there’s no tomorrow... Always thought that these whales go for clean water. Maybe some kind of junk whale, hard to believe but the Misses insist that we going to see whales around Pattaya. That will be the day

My colleagues inform me that there were 4 whales about 8 meters long.

They are seen by local villagers as a bad omen, foreshadowing natural disasters.

Local fishermen have never seen the like before, not even dead washed up on a beach here. They see dolphins and porpoises but never whales (described as giant by the article).

They tried to notify a govt. office but it was closed as they chose to appear on the week-end.

I would be concerned for their safety, whatever the species.

In coming yearls there is likely to be a lot more sightings of Whales, masses of Jelly fish, Funny lookig Worms and other not so native species around the coasts of Bang Sean, Pattaya, and Jomtien, but it is not the sign bad things to come, far from it, it is just with the creation of artificial reefs made from old Trains and Water Pipes etc. there is far more feeding to be had by more species! :o

look like humpbacks feeding.....the sad thing is they might be lost...shipping confuses their sounds and navigation.

Humpback whales, protected under a 1966 worldwide moratorium after years of overhunting, are renowned for their complex songs and acrobatic displays. The humpbacks' slow progression along Australia's coast to breed has turned into a major tourist attraction, bringing 1.5 million whale watchers each year.

The Japanese whaling chief said that the fleet was not targeting humpback whales. "Japan doesn't have a specific position on humpback whales. They are a fisheries resource as much as any other whale and when it is scientifically proven that there are enough resources, we conduct sustained research," Moronuki said.

Only Norway and Iceland openly defy a 1986 moratorium on commercial hunting of all whales. Japan argues that it abides by the agreement but makes no secret that the meat from the hunt ends up on dinner plates.
