Fitting An Electric Shower

Recommended Posts

Hi all

i bought a electric shower unit back from the UK as it was spare. i planned on using here in my 2nd bathroom which is currently cold water only

the water inlet fitting is not a screw on type. its like a plastic pipe with a metal filter inside.

i think its some sort of UK push-fix fitting ? or palstic compresion fitting.

the plumber i got to look here in los just looks at it in amazemnt and cannot understand. he's tried to fix a platic hose pipe to it with a circlip lol .. which leaks like hel_l anyway .. :o

i know this is a standard fitting tpye for UK showers now on the inlet as i had a new shower in my uk home about a year ago and noticed the same fitting on that.

anyone knoe if i can get the fittings i need in los to connect the inlet ? name in thai for it etc etc

Take the unit to a plumbing shop or home remodeling center and they can surely provide what you need to adapt the unit to work.

The shop where I bought 2 heaters charged me 900B per heater for installation.

There was quite a bit involved, it took 2 guys (in manufacturer's overalls, professional tool kit) 1 hour each to fix them to the wall and produce hot water.

That looks like a push-on fitting, in which case you'll need something like this http://www.plumbingfittingsonline.co.uk/de...1336&r=1408 or this http://www.plumbingfittingsonline.co.uk/de...1336&r=1338 in order to connect to the local pipe.

It's possible that local PVC will actually fit into one of the elbows but the only way to be sure would be to buy one and have it shipped over :o

Your unit looks like the one we had when we rented in Pattaya. The heater was fitted with 3/4 inch pvc pipes & looked like it was glued with Elephant brand glue(for plumbing Dries hard like plastic cement. The inlet had an elbow with a nipple that was joined into the cold water& then glued into place by slipping the water heater into the pipe with the glue on it.And then mounted the unit to the wall. It also looked like they packed extra glue after around the pipe for added measure. The outlet had 3/4" pvc pipe with a straight step down to a 1/2" thread with a nipple. the shower hose was then attached to the end. Elephant glue is real strong & you can get it at most Home Pro ,Home mart , home works or the local mom & pops places with plumbing gear.

The installer (probably the original owner from England) used their brain & made both ends of the pvc extra long (in case of needed repair they had extra pipe to cut off & repair. If you go this route make sure to use Elephant brand it is the best, I use it for some plumbing jobs- good too cause it takes a little time to set. Make sure you wait a while to let the glue cure before putting pressure into the pipes. The fittings look like they would be hard to get here in LOS for sure.

Good luck.
