Thai Entertainment Industry Is Full Of Closet Skeletons

Featured Replies

Lately I heard from my friend who is a lawyer and claims to be an insider, that there is lots of sh...t going on in the back stages of the entertainment industry. I am addressing this topic as the industry likes to target children of expats so called look krueng. Any thoughts on this?

Sure, I have some very delicate information which I cannot publish openly unless I want to leave this country. But believe me there are horror stories of rape, sex for movie roles, bribery and nepotism which is the true driving force behind the Thai entertainment industry.

...and there isnt anywhere else?

Welcome to the REAL world.

No, I only want to warn the expats to keep their kids away from the entertainment scam.

My thoughts are that rumour, hearsay and inuendo do not make a good basis for bringing a topic like this up for discussion and debate.

Pls. be a little more specific.

Soundman.

Bribary & Nepotism is just daily life in Thailand.

Rape is sadly not uncommon, in most industries here.

But declining by many accounts. We can hope.

The Hollywood Casting couch no doubt just transfered here.

Pretty girls and boys are always targets for olde attention.

More that a couple of mover and shaker Hollywood guys

are nicknamed 'Sugar Boots'.

The expat children are often half thai and speak good english,

so are more marketable world wide to the press.

And the 'producers' are Svengalii control freak types wanting total control.

No doubt there are some sick people into abusing most anybody

and don't draw the line at age.

Methinks the OP is living under a bridge somewhere!

What is the point here? At first you would think that the OP is referring to prostitution, then you think maybe he means legit entertainment etc. I doubt that the kids of expats are at any increased risk from predators in either business.

Ronnie,

how long have you been in Thailand or lived in Thailand?

Be honest, now.

Agree.

Could as well been from Hollywood, Bollywood, Dollywood, Mollywood, etc.

If what you are trying to warn of is true, it'll take more than innuendo to get your message across here i'm afraid. And then of course, as already seen, it'll be met with irrelevant howls of Hollywood, Bollywood and every wood that can be dredged up. Very fragile sentiments here.

So, unless you want to spell things out and name your sources, forget it. Even then, it'd be a tough task.

The entertainment industry can be horrible for any "wannabe", world wide!

If we should discuss the local industry, well then I (together with several other here) kindly suggest some details, and not a general warning.

To excuse the lack of details with self protection makes no sense in a Forum where the posts are often discussed/commented.

Really no need to post it, is it?

This is very correct. The bad thing is only that the industry is heavily targeting look krueng, as the "producers" are always looking for new toys to play with. Please note that a high percentage of the look krueng are "recruited" into the entertainment branch. I can tell of a few accounts where young girls get raped by the producers or their relatives and can get by unpunished. This can only happen because the powers behind the entertainment industry are very influential and have ties to police.

this is stupid - you either put up or shut up.

if you really cared about this issue you would get some evidence and publish the facts. if you don't want to reveal your real name you could just write an article under a pseudynom.

what's stopping you from doing that on tv? no-one knows your real name here do they?

I work in the Thai "entertainment" industry and I have never, ever seen "look kreung" heavily targeted - a novelty at best.

Your statement comes accross as a wide stereo type of the entire industry and from that perpsective is utter sensationalism and complete rubbish.

Isolated incedents of blackmail and sexual quid pro quo may, of course, occur, as they would in any country in the world. That does not make the Thai entertainment industry any worse or better than their overseas equivalents.

Rather than trying to hype up a subject with speculation and innuendo, how about put some specifics down and the merits of the situation can be discussed and debated.

This is a pointless and stupid topic to be talking about.

This is well known.

That is why responsible parents always are with their kids during casting and production.

Anyone can post this stuff. Glad the OP doesn't live near my sewing circle, there are enough fishwives making up rumours as it is.

My ex was employed in this industry for over 10 years. What your going on about does not exist as a general rule. There might be the odd exception, but as a general rule this way of target........ I still have good friends in the industry and all say the same thing, <deleted>.

your later post become even more extreme. my girls have done a couple of music videos, and they have been treated with respect and politness behind the scenes at all times. Give it up!

BTW- this is more likely to happen to a poor pretty Isan girl if she got the break. Her father is not a 115kg bruiser who would KILL the first improper producer to cross the line. Believe me, I mean he would be "dead", and I believe most of the western fathers here (ie the luuk krungs dads) would be pretty much on top of the situation.

I like to eat a lot of fish though. LOL!

Many if not most of those "skeletons" are young ADULTS making their own choices in life.
