Here's hoping for a subway series.

That would be something to see. I know the Cubs haven't been to the World Series since 1945, but have the White Sox and Cubs ever played against each other in the WS?

The Cubs and the White Sox played each other in the 1906 World Series. The White Sox won in a huge upset 4 games to 2. The Cubs won 116 regular season games that year a record that has never been broken (the Seattle Mariners tied it in 2001).

I watched both Red Sox - Angels games so far, on ESPN. You cans earch the schedule on-line but be aware that it is not 100% accurate. Example: LAA@BOS game 3, starts at 6:17 AM Monday morning but True's schedule shows a 3:00 AM start time. Check the current schedules at mlb dot com, adjust to Thai time then turn on TV to ESPN.

Have my Dodgers and Angels in there, hoping for a freeway series.

No Freeway series this year as the Halos fall to the Red Sox, again :o (1986, 2004, 2007). Vaguely reminiscent of all those years the Lakers folded against the Celtics.

NLCS: Phillies vs. Dodgers

ALCS: Red Sox vs. Rays

I expect all the games to be on ESPN here.

I cringe at the thought of the Red Sox possibly matching up against the Dodgers in the World Series as the Red Sox are still paying Manny Ramirez' salary.

I know know you're a Red Sox fan lomatopo and I mean no personal offense, but there are tens of millions of baseball fans like myself who would find a World Series without the Red Sox or Manny Ramirez really refreshing. We can at least be thankful that we were spared the torture of another year of the Yankees in the playoffs. Most of us are tired of how the sports media has fawned over the Yankees and Red Sox while nearly ignoring the smaller market teams. I for one am hoping for a Rays vs Phillies WS this year.

I still expect all the ALCS and NLCS games to be televised locally, live on ESPN. I reviewed the TrueVisions on-line schedule and see they have listings but the times are not accurate. This is understandable as the schedules were really only finalized after the Red Sox eliminated the Angels.

So check the schedule at mlb dot com.

Right now I see: (local Bangkok time)

Friday, 7:22 AM LAD vs. PHI

Saturday, 7:17 AM BOS vs. TB

Based solely on regular season winning percentages, and the associated home-field advantages, a PHI vs. TB World Series seems likely.

You've got to love it when a team with the 2nd lowest payroll (TB) has the potential to win it all.

Just checked True Visions schedule online and I'm not seeing anything for baseball playoffs.

Is that because the Yankees aren't in it (thank Buddha)?

Have my Dodgers and Angels in there, hoping for a freeway series.

Anybody have any info?

If you have an internet connection that consistently connection speeds of >400 Kbs, a good way to watch the games is to go to http://www.mlb.com/mlb/subscriptions/index_int.jsp and shell out US$20 for the right to watch all the remaining games either live or as a replay. It gives surprisngly good looking video quality for the bandwidth that it consumes.

Just to clarify regarding the above post, TrueVisions IS showing the American and National League Baseball championship series games on ESPN. The only detail is, only TrueVisions Gold and Platinum-level subscribers get ESPN, not the silver and lower packages...

PHI leads LAD 2 - 1

Next game:

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Phillies Dodgers 7:22 AM Blanton (9-12) Lowe (14-11)

BOS and TB at 1 - 1

Next games:

Tuesday, October 14, 2008

Rays Red Sox 3:37 AM Garza (11-9) Lester (16-6)

Wednesday, October 15, 2008

Rays Red Sox 7:07 AM Sonnanstine (13-9) Wakefield (10-11)

Dang Lom.... I stayed up last night from midnight to 6 am to watch my California NFL teams... the Raiders and the 49ers... get their butts kicked all over the field...

So after that, I just couldn't hang on for the 7 am Dodgers game this morning. So I went to sleep and just woke up lately to find your posting here... and mention of the wins-loss count in the series!!!

Now I already know who won!!!! Before, I was figuring, how am I going to avoid hearing or seeing the outcome before the Truevisions afternoon replay of the Dodger's game comes on... Next time, don't post the game outcome so quick!!!! :o

And today... the most astounding post-season game since G6 of the 1986 series took place. The Rays now are now up 3 game to 2 and the Sox will be going to Philadelphia.

No question a great game for us Red Sox fans, right up there with game 6 of the 1975 W.S., game 5 of the 1985 ALCS, games 4 & 5 of the 2004 ALCS, but probably a big downer for Rays fans?

Game 6 of the ALCS is shown locally tomorrow morning (Sunday) at 7:07 AM.

FWIW, since the Terry Francona-managed American League won this year's All-Star game the Phillies will be traveling to either Tampa or Boston for game 1 of the World Series*, Thursday, 7:00 AM here.

*eagerly awaiting this year's annual ThaiWeeza comments about the misappropriation of the word "World". :o

I doubt that it was a big downer for Rays fans. Ray's fans cheer more when the ball boy throws a foul gound ball into the stands than than when one of their stars hits a home run. It's a classic example of a city not being deserving of having a professional baseball team, second only to Atlanta. Ultimate Frisbie is a more suitable sport for that town.

In any case... I think that you mean G5 of the 1986 ALCS rather than 1985, which was the Dave Henderson game. That one was probably the closest one to yesterday's game though the score prior to the comback was not as lopsided. Game 6 of the 1975 series was perhaps the greatest baseball game ever but it was more like a hatchet fight than the one-sided come-from-behind story that we saw yesterday. Admitedly, the Sox still have their work cut out for them, but I don't think that there ever has been a team in any sport that is more dangerous when then don't have a chance than the modern day Red Sox. Let's hope the the upcoming World Series is a repeat of the 1915 series (which was long before Europeans became offended that the word "World" is to describe the event).

Red Sox optimist here. Will be arriving Pattaya October 21. Assuming the sox win game 7, can anybody point me to a bar that televises the game? I vaguely recall seeing some baseball down on walking street at one place inside the Simon Beer Bar complex. But that was a year or two ago and even that was tape delayed.

Raised in Rumford Rhode Island, right next to Pawtucket city line. Been going to Pawtucket Red Sox games since the 60's. I now am a Florida resident but don't give a hoot about Tampa Bay.

Funny thing is I was working just outside Philadelphia this summer on a contract. The Dalai Lama visited the area. I went out to Lehigh University and attended a day long lecture. What a beautiful day on a beautiful campus. Phillies Sox series would be net.

Go Bosox.

Congratulations to the Tampa Bay Rays and their fans. Last year they had the worst record in the major leagues (66 wins) and finsihed 30 games back of the Red Sox in the AL East. This year they recorded 97 wins and bested the Red Sox. Not bad for the team with the 2nd lowest payroll.

Let's see if Tampa Bay can add to their recent Stanley Cup and Super Bowl winning teams.

As much as I would have loved to see a Boston-Philadelpia series, the Rays really earned their ticket to the WS. Baseball at it's finest.

Funny you mention Lehigh. I lived in Allentown for many years and went to grad school there for a while when working for a local company. If you call the campus "beautiful" I'm going to guess that you visited there on a warm spring day when then skies were blue. But if you were a student walking to your classes on any random day from about November to February, you'd see the appeal of moving to Koh Samui.

BTW, I was raised in Connecticut, where half the people rooted for the Red Sox and the other half rooted for the Yankees in baseball and for the Russians in the Olympics.

  • 5 months later...

I'm bringing up this thread again in the hopes some of you MLB fans will take notice. It appears (so far, anyway) that Truvisions will be showing only NY Yankee games on ESPN channel 64. The 1st two games this weekend and Friday the 17th were/are Yankee games...

Last year True TV started the same way (Yankees-only) and only broadcast a few non-NY games much later in the season. I'd like to think they changed the NY-only policy because of viewers complaints....

I don't mind a proportionate # of NY games but can't go thru another season like last year. I reckon if you're a Yankee fan you'll be happy though...

I've asked True TV what their policy/schedule is this season but have received no answer as yet. If they reply it's Yankees-only again I'll let you guys know. I'll be sending a strong message of complaint and urge everyone who feels the same to do so too...

Hi Cloghead,

Just want to clarify things for you. TRUE VISIONS itself has nothing to do with the broadcasting of MLB games in Thailand, so complaining to them about the overload of Yankees games is rather pointless.

MLB games aired on the ESPN channel that you receive via TRUE are the province of ESPN, which is a sports channel independent of TRUE. TRUE just carries that channel along wth several others in their lineup that folks want to complain to TRUE about--misguidedly so--about programming, and program decisions.

Your complaint should be directed at ESPN itself, and you can go to their website, espnstar.com, and attempt to leave a comment. They are not so good about receiving them, and most likely will not respond.

Also, take a look here, www.espnstar.com/feedback/ Just checked it, and it looks like you can leave a comment there, and it will be received.

But they are the ones who are ensuring that we get a steady diet of Yankees baseball games--for whatever reason, I don't know--and it's been that way the past several seasons. (With the occasional Dodgers game thrown in.)

In the absence of any explanation by the Singapore-based broadcast entity which uses the 'ESPN brand', I can only surmise that it has some kind of deal with MLB to air only games from those two teams, or that it might even have individual deals outside MLB's control with the teams directly. That's why fans here are stuck with the Yankees, the occasional Dodgers game, and once-in-a-blue moon a game with teams other than those two.

What's more pathetic, there are no more original ESPN-from-the-U.S. MLB games (along with ESPN's NFL games in the States) aired on ESPN here! How can that be? What connection besides the logo and slogan and some old graphics do they even have with the U.S. ESPN? None that I can see.

What a joke. And then you hear those promos as nauseum on the station, with the over-amped announcer, "MAJOR LEAGUE BASEBALL, ON ESPN". I have told them they should change it to what it is, 'New York Yankees baseball on ESPN', for some truth in advertising.

Take it to ESPN, TRUE's off the hook on this one.
