So having been living in Thailand and working here for just under 4 years I am thinking at this stage of relocating back to the UK.

I have trawled through all the previous postings and made a less than helpful phone call to the UK embassy in Bangkok.

My partner is from Lao, we are not married, we have two daughters, one almost two and one three months old.

All the information online seems to be regarding people that have come to Thailand on holiday, met someone, and want to them to be able to settle in the UK. There seems to be very little info for those that have lived here for an extended period and no wish to relocate back to the UK with their partners.

The children will not be problem as the eldest already has a UK passport and the youngest will as soon as i have time to got o Bangkok and organise it.

It seems they you need to produce all sorts of financial documents and proof of address and so forth. Obviously this would be relatively straightforward if I was simply here in Thailand on holiday, but having moved here and started a business here I do not have any proofs from the UK anymore as the house etc was sold before I moved out.

Is there a different set of guidelines for this or a resource online that anyone can recomend so that I can read about the hoops that I need to jump through? The person that I spoke to one the phone told me that phone records were better than having two children with our names on the birth certificate!

Any pointers to helpful info sites appreciated.

smartcosee, where do you & your family plan on staying when you arrive in the UK? Will you be staying with relatives / friends whilst you look for a place to rent? If yes, then have those rellies write a letter of invite stating how many rooms etc they have & that they have no problem letting you stay for as long as you need.

Even though you dont' have a job yet, show the embassy how you intend to make money. Ffor example, I showed copies of P60's even though they were a few years out of date & added a note to my covering letter stating what kind of work I do, how much I generally earned (as per P60s ) & also how easy it would be to find work (email from employment agency specifying what jobs were on market that I would be qualified for) In your covering letter explain you live in thailand so would be moving as a family to start life there & that you have no house, job etc yet but can show xyz savings to prove you can suppport you all. In my experince they don't really care if you have no house, job etc just that you will be able to aquire those things soon after arriving so add as much proof of that as you can.

To prove your relationship, include any joint bills from your home in thailand, photos, any fliught stubs etc as although 2 kids should be enough proof, imo it is better to add too much info than too little :o

Good luck but tbh with 2 kids & a ltr, it should be straighforward.

thanks for the help :o

If you search for my old posts you should fin heaps of info.

I'm Italian my OH is Thai and we lived in Australia for 3yrs before going to the UK.

At that time we did not have much money or much 'relevant working experience' but we are now (more or less) settled in UK.

The embassy in Sydney was just spectacular (7 days from sending the application to receiving the passport back with a 6months visa). The visa was converted to a 5 yrs residency card once in the UK (we had to wait a bit for that...it takes up to 6months to process).

Just fill the relevant form, add proof that you are in a relationship akin marriage and that's all...very straight forward.

If you need help just ask...
