Traffic Public Skepticism Persists as Thailand Enforces New Traffic Fine System
You have to go back to basics. Is the current driving test fit for purpose? I would suggest it isn't. I remember renewing my license and was waiting to get on the reaction test. A lady was in front of me and tried it at least 10 times and failed each time, but she walked out with a full driving license. No need to elaborate on that. -

Transport Air India Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Phuket After Bomb Threat
Bomb Threat Note Found on Air India Flight, Man Detained in Phuket Picture courtesy of The Phuket News An Indian passenger's erratic behaviour raised alarms on a Phuket to Delhi flight, sparking a bomb scare that led to an emergency landing. The Air India flight AI 379 was diverted back to Phuket International Airport yesterday morning after a bomb threat was discovered onboard, affecting 156 passengers. The unnerving incident unfolded around 9.30 am on June 13 when a menacing note was found in the plane's lavatory. Responding swiftly, Thailand's Aeronautical Radio informed airport authorities, prompting the pilot to seek an urgent landing. The airport's contingency measures saw the aircraft moved to a secluded area for safety as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal team swept both passengers and luggage, finding no explosives. The man at the centre of the commotion, 52-year-old Sanjay Bhartia, was detained for questioning. Airport staff had noted him displaying unusual behaviour at check-in. Although Mr Bhartia was travelling alone, he conversed as if accompanied, further raising suspicions. Thai authorities, aided by language support from the Phuket Tourist Assistance Centre, are rigorously examining the incident under the guidance of Police Colonel Akanit Danpitaksan and Sakhu Police Chief Pol. Col. Salan Tantisankun. Forensic experts have taken samples of Bhartia’s handwriting to compare with the bathroom threat note. Meanwhile, a passenger and Phuket-based real estate and hotel business figure recounted the flight ordeal. “Everything seemed normal until the mid-air announcement of a technical issue. "It was only after hours of circling that we learnt about the bomb threat,” he detailed to The Phuket News. Thankfully, no panic ensued, and the businessman continued his travel plans. The investigation into the threat continues, with authorities striving to ensure flight security and passenger safety. There were no injuries reported, and operations at Phuket International Airport have resumed as normal. Adapted by ASEAN Now from The Thaiger 2025-06-14 -

Myanmar's Tourist Push to Russia Falls Flat Amid Conflict
YANGON — Myanmar’s junta is doubling down on efforts to lure Russian tourists, but the country’s battered tourism sector is greeting the campaign with derision — and disbelief. Despite flashy bilateral talks, visa exemptions, and direct flights to Russia, tourism operators say the reality on the ground makes such overtures largely symbolic. “They keep inviting Russians, but as long as the country is at war with itself, nothing will change,” one Yangon-based operator told The Irrawaddy. Tourism Minister Kyaw Soe Win travelled to Moscow this week to promote Myanmar at an international travel forum, where he pitched visa-free travel, hotel investments, and familiarisation trips for Russian officials. Yet insiders note the numbers remain small: fewer than 2,500 Russians visited in the first eight months of 2024 — most on business or official trips. “Even before the 2021 coup, we saw few Russian tourists. This campaign is more theatre than substance,” said another operator. Efforts to develop key resorts have also faltered. Russian-backed deals at Ngapali Beach collapsed after the Arakan Army seized the area, while coastal resorts like Ngwesaung have been closed to foreigners due to ongoing insurgencies. Only the remote Myeik archipelago remains accessible. Meanwhile, Myanmar’s promotional website has been offline since a March earthquake, and industry confidence is collapsing. Once-thriving tourist towns such as Bagan and Inle Lake are now dotted with shuttered hotels and jobless staff. Neighbouring Thailand, in sharp contrast, is forecasting a booming 39 million visitors this year. Laos is targeting over 4 million. The junta claims over a million international arrivals in 2023, with junta leader Min Aung Hlaing insisting over 500,000 came in early 2024 — figures many in the industry treat with scepticism. “Russia can’t save Myanmar tourism,” one operator said bluntly. “And the junta’s numbers can’t hide the truth: tourists just aren’t coming.” -2025-04-14 -

Foreign teachers being asked / forced to teach their Thai colleagues
Do you have a contract with a specific number of contact hours? If so, and this extra teaching exceeds those hours, you would have a case. When would the classes take place? I would want paying for after school hours or even worse, weekends!
