Big Mango Map - Greater Bangkok & Expressways

I would stop-over in Cha Am - Hua Hin on the way down. From there 7-8 hours. Chiang to Bangkok 7-8 then a couple more to Cha Am - Hua Hin.

Drive during the day.

Safe trip & lets us know how it went.

I would not even attempt to drive that far in one day, not even as far as Hua Hin from CM. I'm all in by the time I get to Bangkok.

If I were you I would stop in Ayutthaya, then the journey can be easily (and safely) completed in 2 days....and if you have never seen Ayutthaya it's well worth it so I'm told

ive driven down south a few times, always stopped at hua hin on the way about 10 hours to hua hin, taking the chinat route then next day or so head down south, roads good dual carrige way most of the route
