I was hoping Sheryl would read this as she always seems to know about medical things but I do not know how to send a personal message so if anyone can help I would really appreciate it. I am in very rural area away from hyome and have a broken tooth which I think is infected. I don't think I can get to a dentist for 2 weeks or so, and though I think it is not the best idea nI was wondering if there is some antibiotic I could take until I get to the dentist. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

There should be a health clinic or the like SOMEWHERE nearby. Get in and get some antibiotics, listen to the Dr/DDS carefully. an abscess can be dangerous when it is in your skull!

Not sure what the pharmacy situation is out in the sticks, but in big towns the pharmacist will give advice and sell you (what they think is ) the best antibiotic for the job. In the meantime you can relieve the pain with painkillers (ibuprofen), heat (hot water bottle wrapped in a towel) or oil of cloves (not sure how available that is in LOS, come to think of it, can't remember the last time I saw a hot water bottle either). Get proper treatment ASAP.

As dental surgery may be called for .... Ibuprofen is not an ideal choice due to bleeding issues. Paracetemol/Tylenol etc is the way to go. I have no idea about heat but it seems counter-intuitive to me in the presence of an infection to encourage increased blood-flow and possibly spread the infection.blood poisoning ....

Even out in rural areas, they do have dentists. if you are in rural Thailand, go to the nearest district (tambon) hospital, these are very simple affairs but they have dentists and can provide antibiotics if this is what you need.
