for what could I use these subdomains?

it seems to me, that any of this subdomains is looking like a totally own Website -

how can I connect or use them sensefully, for instant to generate more traffic ?

do I have to register each subdomain single handed to searchengines and toplists?

for what are subdomains used generally?

cheers

you can use the subdomains to link to each other, hence upping the link count that google sees.

google sees each subdomain as separate domains. if you have links from your 'toplevel' domain to your subdomains the search engines should spider them automatically (but they will in most cases not be directly affiliated with each other.

subdomains are used for a variety of things, mostly as you say to give a feel of a separate web page. You can see for example what thaivisa is doing:

insurance.thaivisa.com

hotels.thaivisa.com

etc

the nice thing about subdomains is that you can have them link where ever you want. This can be useful if you let other business use your name but you don't necessarily want to grant them access to your server.

insurance.thaivisa.com could be pointing to an entirely different server (but in this case it is not)

insurance.thaivisa.com also looks 'cooler' than thaivisa.com/insurance

another useful thing that subdomains are used for are CDNs (content delivery networks)

web browsers have a limit of 2 connections at a time per domain, this means that if you are downloading from thaivisa.com you can only download 2 elements at a time.

with the use of subdomains you could have banners.thaivisa.com and javascript.thaivisa.com

this would (along with the top level domain) give you 6 concurrent connections. This is mostly a latency thing as ofcourse the total bandwidth doesnt change.

What is your domain name?

Along with the above mentioned uses, they can be used to place content on different servers in different geographic locations. asia.domain.com, africa.domain.com, etc. You can even get more granular and use thailand.asia.domain.com. Large organizations will generally need many subdomains on their private network but not so many on the internet unless they happen have a large web presence.

Also used for services which will may resolve to different hosts such as

mail.domain.com

ftp.domain.com

irc.domain.com

It's good idea to give different services their own child domain as it makes moving them around amongst different hosts easier if it comes to that.

Another thing you can use subdomains for is to host different content on your site. Such as images.domain.com, static.domain.com etc. Store all your images files and static html and script files on subdomains. The reason for this is that browsers have a connection limit, which means they can only call a few files from a domain at a time, if you spread your files over various subdomains, you can overcome this limit and your webpages will load much quicker.
