Non Imm - O

Featured Replies

Hi I'm in thailand on a non immigrant O visa.

I'm a brit, 26 yrs old and my 1st 90 days will expire on 23rd oct.

So my question is do I just need go out of thailand(any border) and come back in for the next 90 days? Or do I have to go to a consulate??? I have no idea.

I would like to go and see Lao for a few days with the girlfriend. She's from Isan and has wanted to go for some time. I really know nothing about the country.

So my other question is where to go and how to get there? If I don't fly is it possible to take a train or is a bus the only option?

Many Thanks

...sorry, I should also say I'm living in Bangkok.

Sorry, but we can't answer you with the info given. We could ASSUME you have a non-imm-multi and if this is the case then you can just go to any border and cross it. If it is your first time you might want to think about a visa run service like Jack Golf

Then again if your current visa is single entry ....

I guess you have a multiple. Yes, you most leave the country and cross the border, but you can come back within the validity of the visa and receive another 90 days. You don't have to go to a consulate for that.

Do check if you have a multiple non-O

It depends how long you want to travel and what you want to do in Laos.

From Ubon you can cross at Chong Mek which is about 2 hours east of the city of Ubon. From there you can go to Pakse in Laos. You can go by plane, train or bus to Ubon and then by bus to Chong Mek.

Another is to cross from Mukdahan and cross over the bridge to Savannakhet. Bus is the only way to get to Mukdahan. You can also go by train to Korat (Nakon Ratchasima) and then bus to Mukdahan.

Next is to travel to Nong Kai and crossover to Vientiane. You can go by train or bus to Nong Kai. Or fly to Vientiane directly. Or fly to Udon Thani and take a bus to Nong Kai.

At any of these crossings you can get a visa on arrival that costs 1500 baht or $35. You can also get a visa from the Lao consulate in Bangkok.

This is just a bit of basic information. Check some travel guides and such for more info.

Thanks guys. Yes sorry multiple entry which was why I said my 1st 90 days.

Well should be novel for the 1st time.

Any cost of entry into Lao and is money easy to get at ATMs?

Cheers

Visa on arrival 1500 baht or $35 US.

ATM's work. Baht is accepted and preferred most places.

It will be easy with girl friend along to do translation. If she is from Isaan she may be able to speak some Lao and Thai is understood by many in Laos. If she has a passport she can enter for 30 days no charge. If not she can get a border pass for about 35 baht.
