Thai Nationality

Featured Replies

I have a 30 year old daughter from my first marriage with a Thai national. She does not have a Thai passport. Her mother died 3 years ago. In the mean time I got married again to another Thai lady and I am living now in LOS on the basis of retirement.I would like to have my daughter live with us without all the hassle with visa, extensions etc.

Can she still have the Thai nationality? Anybody having any experience?

Your daughter already has Thai nationality, if her mother was Thai at the moment your daughter was born.

Art 7. of the Thai nationality act.

The following persons acquire Thai nationality by birth:

(1) A person born of a father or a mother of Thai nationality, whether within or outside the Thai Kingdom;

I understand your daugther is living outside of Thailand, she can apply at an embassy.

Was she born abroad, or here in Thailand?

If abroad, she should contact a Thai Embassy or Consulate in the country where she was born. She'll need to take her birth certificate with her. They'll use it to make a Thai birth certificate for her. As soon as she has that, the same day, she can apply for a Thai passport.

If she was born here, she'll need proof such as a birth certificate or her name on a house registration. If she doesn't have that I'm not sure of the procedure. I'd suggest contacting a passport office for help.

Good luck with this.
