Retirement Visa Renewal

Featured Replies

Can anyone tell me how soon beforre the expiration date can the one year retirement visa be renewed?

I have heard up to one month but also have heard only during the preceeding week. Thanks.

Within the last thirty days is the most common reply given.

No less than a week before I would say so that if some document is not right you have time to get things sorted out,

For the last 5 years have always done mine 3 weeks before........ so far never a problem but you can never tell and may need a week or so to get something 'new'

The rule used by most Immigration Offices is 21 days, maximum.

Agree with Joe it is 30 days. If you need to travel they will even do it sooner. Some immigration offices now advise to apply when you have 21 days left.

I think this information is completely INCORRECT.

We are talking about a one year extension based on retirement. I believe you CAN apply for an extension for that up to the LAST day, but you wouldn't want that kind of pressure. I think this poster is confused by the 21 day maximum rules for other kinds of actions, for example converting an entry stamp to an O visa for the purpose of doing a one year extension based on retirement (that first action is a separate issue).

Can a certified visa guru confirm?

Also note, reports now in Jomtien that you can come in as EARLY as two months out if you want, with no excuses or special proof of need required.

For change of visa it is not 21 days maximum but minimum, ie there must be at least 21 days left of the permission to stay.

For a repeat application for an annual extension of stay the general rule is that application must be done within the last 30 days of the permission to stay but there have been cases where applications were accepted earlier.

Regarding the Jomthien immigration office, there was an article in a Pattaya newspaper quoting an immigration officer recommending application one to two months before expiration of the current permission to stay.

The single biggest problem in communication is the illusion that it has taken place

Oh, sorry, I was the one confused re maximum/minimum.

But I think you did answer my implied, but poorly stated, question, that if you waited until the last day that would be OK as well, for the continuing retirement extensions.

Mr Barry Kenyon informed the expats club some days ago that, the jontiem immigration will accept annual retirement visa renaewals 90 days before expiry. There was no reference to any migating circumstances ie Travel etc,

I'm due for renewal in two months so I will wander down there sometime next week with my docs and see if they acceptable so early.

Cheers

I believe there is no published regulatory requirement saying that a repeat application for extension of stay cannot be made earlier than 30 days before expiration of the current extension but that there may be merely an internal guideline to that effect. Therefore, the Jomthien immigration office would be free to accept earlier applications as a rule and even encourage it, be it as a service to applicants or because they find it to their own advantage.

Yes, I believe this.

I also believe this is further evidence that Jomtien is not interested in the three month money seasoning "rule" for those applying for SUBSEQUENT extensions (using the 800K). Think about it. Apply 90 days early and also your funds need to be seasoned ANOTHER three months? I don't think so.
