This time, I miscalculated my 30 day on entry pass. I counted the entry day as day 0, not day 1.

Unfortunately, my flight leaves on day 31. I can't change the date. So what's my best way to extend one day?

Option 1. Pay the fine at the airport? Will this put me on some blacklist and prejudice future 30 day passes? Later, I was going to apply for the other kind of visa. (60 day at a time, extendable another 30 days in the country - visa run to repeat). If I'm 1 day late this time - might they refuse me this visa?

Option 2. A Visa run. I'm on Ko Chang right now, close to Cambodia. I have a flight to Singapore, but not to my own country (Which I haven't visited for about eight years, so not technically my country of residence). Wasn't there some rule about Cambodian visa runs that you need an air ticket back to your own country?

If you are in country already and have a flight out ... and your 30 days is not up, I think you may be able to take your passport and ticket to immigration and get an extension or possibly they might let you pre-pay the overstay 1 day (more expensive than paying 1 day overstay at the airport.

You are at relatively little risk if you just pay the overstay on departure BUT if you are caught on the day of overstay on your way to the airport (almost unheard of) you would be in a jam. You would be at more risk if you were on overstay and heading to a land crossing.

I have NEVER heard of anyone being blacklisted (or getting into any major trouble of any kind) for an overstay of one day (and know of people that overstayed for years ... paid 20k on departure .. flew home ... got a non-imm multi visa and returned almost immediately)

ALL of that being said .... DO NOT OVERSTAY :o

If leaving from airport for an overstay of less than 24 hours there is no charge.

But you will still get an overstay stamp in your passport. And while it's true that at present having such a stamp seems to cause no further problems who knows what will happen in the future.

For a 24 hour overstay it would never be a problem. For the future I can tell you I know of several overstays much worse and they have never had a problem.

If your overstay was for a greater period of time I would tell you to go and get a 7 day extension at immigration or make a border run.

I never knew you could pay to extend a 30 day entry stamp. How much does it cost?

What about needing a flight ticket to your own country for Cambodia visa runs? I tried to find where I'd read this - Can someone point me to the post? (for future reference too).

There is no automatic 7 day extension. You may be able to extend and if so it will be 1900 ... they also may let you prepay a 1 day overstay.

The 7 day extensions are normally done without a problem. It's meant to be used in cases where you can't get a flight out, sick and etc. I have done it but it was long ago.

You can't prepay an overstay.

If on overstay already you can go to immigration pay the overstay and get the 7 day extension 1900 baht more than overstay fine.

That tells us something about the past and the present but not about what may (or may not) happen in the future. Your guarantee that it will never be a problem isn't really worth anything, as you are not the one who will make the decision if the OP will be given a visa or allowed to enter Thailand in the future.

I agree that a single, short overstay will most likely not cause any future problems, but none of us can say for sure. If the Thai authorities continue to tighten the visa requirements who is to say that they will not start refusing to issue visas to anyone with a previous overstay. After all, that's what many other countries would do.

Personally I would follow the rules and pay the 1,900 baht for an extension. But as always it's up to everyone to decide for themselves.
