60 Days Tourist Visa

Featured Replies

Hello

I'm South African and departing for Thailand next week.

I was planning to go for 60 days (15th Oct-14th Dec) so I applied for the 60 day tourist visa. Date of Issue was 17 September 2008, must enter before 16th December 2008.

Due to unforseen circumstances I had to postpone my trip to the 4th of November.

I am just wondering now whether my visa is valid from date of issue, or does my 60 days start upon entry?

If it is from the date of issue will I be able to ask for a 30 day extention upon arrival or do you have to wait and apply closer to the end date?

Also I applied for a single entry and only realised after that I want to go into Cambodia for a few days, how do I go about that?

Thank you

Yo holmes,

Your 60 days begins upon entry, but you have to enter before your visa expires. you can get an extra 30 day extension from the local immigration office. Usually you wait until your visa is about to expire.

You can go to Cambodia and make your trip a "visa run" to get an extra 30 days when you return back to Thailand.

You will get your 60 days and 30 day extension without any problem.

If you want to make a short trip out you can get a re-entry permit at immigration for 1000 baht. When it is issued it will have a validity date that is is equal to your permitted to stay date. You will have to re-enter before that date. You could even go to immigration and apply for your extension and re-entry permit at the same time. It would save a trip to immigration if you do it that way.

Hi, do you perhaps please have an address of an immigration office in Bangkok area where I can stop for my visa extension and re-entry permit?

Thanks, regards.

As others have said, the 60 days starts on arrival. If your trip to Cambodia can be made in the second half of your trip you can avoid all the hassles at immigration. As long as you are leaving Thailand in less than 30 days after you return from Cambodia you can just get a 30 day entry permit at the border when you cross back from Cambodia. No reentry permits or extentions will be needed. As a matter of fact, if you timed your Cambodia trip at about 30 days from arrival you wouldn't even need the Thai tourist visa.
