Simple facts:

My current O visa extension expires on November 18th. It is a 60 day extension to my ED student visa, and was issued according to the immigration visa extension rules to allow me to visit my Thai son

I now have an opportunity to work as a teacher in a government university. But issue of the actual work permit is not likely to happen before my current visa extension expires.

Is it possible to extend my visa prior to issue of the work permit? The university are willing to provide required proof of employment that they are offering?

Thanks

Normally you would have enough time to get a WP, as it is a government university. It doesn't take as long as for a private company.

When you apply for the WP you get a WP3 receipt, stating that you have applied for the WP and when you can come and pich it up. This document you can show to immigration and is enough for an extension based on employment.

If you can't show it, immigration won't extend for employment. Not sure if they will give a 7 day extension.

Thanks Mario, I'm just trying to consider all possible options re visa/employment etc, against a deadline of 18th November when my current visa extension expries. I havn't made any decision as to what to do because there are quite a few factors for me to consider.

If you decide to take the University job. Here is an option that could buy you some time.

You are going to need to do a visa status change to get a non-b status verses the non-o you have now to visit your son.

All this of course depends on the University doing the letter.

DOCUMENTS TO BE SUBMITTED IN SUPPORT OF THE APPLICATION FOR VISA OR VISA STATUS ALTERATION (NON-B ): WORKING AS A TEACHER IN THAILAND

In case of overstaying in Thailand, application could not be submitted.

1. Application for Visa Status Alteration. (TM.86)

2. Application for visa. (TM.87)

3. Copy of passport entries.

4. 4 X 6 cm. Photograph.

5. Application fee of 2,000 baht.

6. To be a teacher in a GOVERNMENT school or university.

As a teacher at the University

A letter from the director of university , requesting visa or visa status alteration.
