Paying For Overstay At The Airport?

Featured Replies

Hello good morning,

I read on this site that there is no problem paying at the airport, as long as you are not stopped by an immigration official/police before hand. I was just wondering if someone else has gone through this process.

Do you need to check in with the airline first before seeing immigration? Or is there an immigration desk you can go to before airline check in?

Is it strongly recommended to go an immigration office in the city? Or do I have nothing to worry about organising it at the airport?

Here's my stats:

British, 28, reached my THB 20,000 overstay, flying within Asia.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

All the best

You can do it at the airport. When you go through the immigration departure check is when you will pay for the overstay.

Just allow some extra time to do it.

As has been said before there is always a risk.

If you go to immigration to pay it. After paying for overstay they will issue a 7 day visa (1900 baht above overstay) which gives you time to leave.

Its up to you to decide which is best for you.

Great thanks for your reply. So the only risk is potentially being caught before hand coupled with the time delay at the airport?

I think I would prefer to carry it out at the airport on the same day I leave to save the other 1900 baht addition :o

Depends the lenght of your overstay.

What I have heard -not rumor, but a true case- : one guy showed up at Suan Phlu on a Monday, with THB20,000 + air-ticket for Friday same week + THB1,900 for a week extension.

Regarding the lenght of his overstay (in his case, more than 3 years, I think), the officer was not allowed to give him any extension and he said to him to go direct to airport and pay the fine on the premises the day he is leaving.

In the mean time, he saved THB1,900... And he came back two weeks after, with a brand new passport + NonO and his story to tell

Amazing Thailand!

I think the main factor was that he had a ticket to show them and also the immigation officer. Others might of made him pay and get the extension.

The 7 day option only pays off cost wise if you have not reached the max fine amoumt yet.

But also there is the peace of mind factor for the time that you are here before leaving if you get the extension which could easily be worth the 1900 baht.

I would simply pay at the airport. I tried to pay at immigration in Bangkok after a lengthy overstay and they weren't interested, just told me to settle up at the airport.

Immigration also just told me to take care of my overstay at the airport.
