Do I Have To Leave Thailand Every 3 Months?

Featured Replies

Please help me I am so confused about all this!

Do I have to leave Thailand Every 3 months?

I am a British citizen with a non-o visa -1 year visa

(on the basis that I am married and my family are thai).

I also have a work permit to work in our family business.

When I renew my 1 year visa can I avoid having to leave the country every 3 months?

I heard about a 12 month extention - is it true? When would I best appy for this? Where? And any idea of the cost? Would this effect my work permit? (Which coincidently ends when my current visa expires in December?)

I do hope some has the answers - it's very confusing all this!!!

kind regards

Paul :o

I thought you needed a 1 Year Non Immigrant B in order to obtain a work permit.

On the basis that you have a non-o visa -1 year visa you should be able to transfer visa type to a non-b visa then you would not have to leave since you have a work permit. You would just have to do a 90 day reporting.

I think extension's of a non-o visa -1 year visa are not possible. You can leave the country and return again before it expires and get an extra 3 months.

I would look at the transfer of visa type and start that process. Then you would not need to leave. Though I still cannot see how you would get a work permit on a non-o visa.

I am a little confused myself. I am sure you will get given a better explanation pretty quickly by someone more knowledgeable on this subject though... :o

You can extend your current permit to stay for one year. You will need to show income of 40,000 baht for the previous 3 months with tax reciepts. If your wife also has income it can be used in combination with your income.

For more info and requirements see page 8 clause 7.17 of police order.

It will have no effect on your work permit. In fact it may make it easier because you should be able to renew it equal to the time remaining on your extension.

The cost will be 1900 baht.

Thanks guys you have both been so helpful ! I think i am on the right path now!!!!

Incidently do you now any good firms for visa processing and legal stuff - I have about 30,000 foreign customers a year and atleast 5% are asking me about this sort of stuff - would be good to direct them to some reputable company!

Thanks again

Good job I added the caveat about 'someone more knowledgeable'... :o

My level of knowledge of visas is about to the level of dangerous as a certain Joe would say... :D

Thanks for replying anyway...

Yeah I always thought u had to have a Non-B but 6 months ago I went to the office to ask work permit office and asked them and they said it was fine because of my family!

I have to say getting the permit was pretty dam_n easy - although I had to have a copy of every document I had as well as photo's of my office!!! Once they could see the compnay was VAT registered and had been paying tax for me already everything was cool !!!

Incidently the VAT people came to see if the company really exisited - apparently people submit false VAT returns and then bag the cash!!! The fact I live on a small island was a bonus day out for them I guess!!!

Cheers

Paul

Yes . With a Multi Entry Non O visa you have to do a border hop every 90days.

As said you can get a years extension at Immigration with the income requirements.

Apply around 30 days before the end of any of toy 90 day stays. The cost is 1,900 Baht .

You would then have to eport to Immigration every 90 days rather than doing border runs.

In Thailand..... never.. :o

Thanks for that

I think that's best thing to do and then I won't keep having to go back to the work permit place every 3 months.

Although they might miss me - I have become quite a regular visitor for them in the last few months!

It's pnly taken 7 years to get this far - and now I am beginning to get to grips with it all - lets hope they don't change the rulings!!!
