Tot Internet Is hel_l

Featured Replies

I used to be a True internet customer

I moved this weekend to a location just outside of Bangkok province

And I was very surprised that there was no True internet whatsoever and that only TOT provides internet here

They connected the line and I installed the modem & splitters everywhere (5 years+ as an Adsl "expert" in my own country makes me pretty confident)... Modem synchronises fine & there is no loss of sync

What there is : is a lack of international bandwith

I have a 1024/512 kpbs connection, or so i pay for it anyway

when I access any site outside Thailand, my http / ftp connection speed drops to ... ranging from a "good" 10 kb/sec to 0 kb /sec ...

small files over 2 mb just time out

it's horrible ... I need to download server backups of just 50-100 mb but this will be impossible

as no competition outside TOT (or is there), what are my options ?

any hints are welcome

I guess complaining to TOT will lead to ... nothing anyway

I guess what I will do immediatly is to lower my paid connection to 128 kbps as they do not me offer anything above that speed anyway

any other person with same BAD experience ?

Try to find if TT&T Maxnet is available or not where you live, because it's far better IMHO than TOT.

I'm guessing you've got a residential package right? I think you'll find Maxnet also do a lot of port shaping as well for 'home user' accounts.

Well, I have many friends for instance in the Udon Thani and Nong Khai provinces, some of them have TOT packages, others have TT&T Maxnet packages. Based on our experiences, I stand by my remark: TT&T Maxnet is far better value for (approximately) the (same amount of) money.

If you can only get a TOT phoneline, you're out of luck for Maxnet.

If, as above advised, you can get a TT&T line, go for Maxnet. If casual usage only go for the Indy package. Quite a bit of port shaping and pretty high latency during peak times, but normally usable.

If reliability/speed is more important, take the Premier package. 2048/512 is 1,090 Baht +vat, pretty good value.

If you're stuck with a TOT line, you should be able to get another ISP such as CSLoxinfo or KSC. Will be more expensive but the only option on getting better internet through your TOT line!
