My DTAC did not work, so I think yours will not work too, but you can buy a local one if you wish, that's what I did.

If you are getting the overnight train up their then you should make it to put your passport in that morning /

Thanks so much for all your help. Im debating whether to buy the return tickets or wait till i cross the border. Appears by the website their are 3 trains to bkk in the even so im sure we can catch something. it will after his highness' bithday by a few days but its not a huge transient holiday. Just dont want to get stuck in NK. Im sure after 2 nts my mates will be ready to blow on out of there.

You can always get on a train but it might not be the class you want. A 3rd class seat is not good at all.

3) Bad advice ..... there are cases where (on busy days) they stop processing visas after 10am and ask you to come back the next day.

Best advice is to turn up at 8-8:30am

6) No need for a photocopy if you use the guys at the other side of the road.

You can only pay for your visa in baht.

I had a Dtac signal most places I went.
