yongli
Hi, I just moved to Bkk recently. Yesterday, went to MBK to get a pair of light shoes, preferably leather. My size is 45 (European) I found, that Thai size 45 is not really European 45, rather 43 or 44. Eventually I ended up with some plastic shoes size 46, 399 Bht. Could anyone advice, where (MBK or elsewhere) to get good shoes, size at least 46 (Thai) for a reasonable price? You would keep me from sweating in my 46 plastic shoes ;-) Thank you very much in advance! yongli
mrtingtong
My advice is to go a bit up market to Zen or some other department store. Many have good deals on at the moment such as 30 % off etc on everything, not just shoes. You can get a great pair of shoes, properly fitted, for less than prices in Department stores in the UK. However if you buy your shoes in Tesco or Asda you may be disappointed! I think you can also get shoes fitted and made for you in Chattuchak market? lazygourmet
Timberland. Main shop at Siam Discovery and small outlets at most of Central department stores. As mrtingtong said there is a 25% reduction.
yongli
@mrtingtong and @lazygourmet: Thank you very much for your fast reply! Will check out Zen and Timberland. Do you also have an idea on sneekers/running shoes? yongli
hanno
In Thailand I need to buy size 47 and often have a hard time finding shoes. As you said, 45 is often not really a "European" 45. I have bought Timberland shoes before, but it is always very hit-and-miss if they have my sizes available. For sports shoes, try any of the big sport stores in the malls. Again: hit-and-miss. As I know the brand and size of running shoes I need, I now order via the Internet.
dee123
yes its never been Thailands best shopping feature (mens shoes)that is...I've hunted high and low in the past to find a pair of quality leather shoes,.but even in UK there aren't many of those small specialist shoe shops selling Italian shoes and similar these days....I bought a pair of Italian shoes and they lasted 15 years or more,...now the fashion is pointed square toes uugghh! phaethon
Robinson's nr Asoke have Ecco shoes - comfortable and hard-wearing for city work. I take a size 46. Expensive but worth it IMHO (3-4000THB). Hold out for a sale.
dee123
thanks Phaethon....Robinson,s near Asoke it is, I should be over in Bkk quite soon hobbling around the shops. Edited November 24, 2008 by dee123
phetaroi
My concern as I prepare to move to Thailand on a tourist visa is not shoe length...I take a 10 American shoe size, which seems do-able in Thailand. But I do require a "wide" shoe. For example, at Bostonian a 10Wide fits perfectly. Are wide sizes available?
Samuian
If you can find a FINDIG outlet - good quality export stuff, I love their deer skin shoes!
flightcrew1
I'm also a 10W American size. I sometimes have to hunt a bit for the size but I generally find what I need at Central. All major brands for sale including Ecco, Clarks, Hush Puppies, etc. Of course shoes are never less than 4000 baht but sometimes you get lucky with a sale. Stay away from those cheap and nasty plastic shoes as they just look bad and can't be good for your feet in this heat!
Deke
The shoe store on the corner of Sukhumvit Road and Soi 11 has at least up to size 46 which is what I wear.

Thank you very much guys. @hanno: Where do you order? Maybe I could do the same. As for large size clothes , i.e. pants (36/36) I have always been able to get some really nice Guy Laroche in Central / Chitlom so I will head there. The funny thing is, in Germany, starting at 2000 Bht you can now get a really decent pair of shoes. I thought, I will buy in Thailand - makes my luggage lighter
