Anyone Been To The Tiger Temple

Featured Replies

We have booked with WTS to take us up to play with the Tigers and walk them to the beach.

Has anyone experienced this? Any tips appreciated.

First tip.

Don't let them eat you

Second tip.

Take a good pair of shoes

The nearest beach is 130 km away.

It is not exactly like they presented it on Animal Planet, I was there four weeks ago, I went with my wife who is Thai, and two of her friends, not with a tour. The Tigers do not roam free within the compound, they are let out around 2:00 for feeding and for the tours, the number of tigers they let out depends on how many Monks are there, 3 Monks 3 Tigers, 12 Monks 12 Tigers. I think the maximum number they have there is 12. We visited there around 10:30 and they were all in there cages. I was very disapointed, my wife and her friend talked to one of the boys that help take care of the Tigers and explained we were returning to the U.S. in another day and we would not have time to schedule another visit, and he was good enough to get one of the large tigers out for us so we could have a little one on one with it for photos and video. Needless to say I was very happy to give a good donation to help buy the dog food for the Tigers.

I hope you have a good time: Bob

Sorry i thought they said beach...but it was quarry. :o

we will make sure we are there for 2pm.

Careful, when they said Quarry they might mean YOU

Was there for the beginning of rains retreat. The tigers were the low point of that our for me and the high point for a farang friend of mine. we were there in the late afternoon and there were 5 Thai boys in the quarry and 1 monk and 4 tigers. One of the tigers was not in the mood to participate and was left alone over by himself (with one boy watching)

They certainly did not appear "drugged" as the other thread suggested and the fee of 150 baht was well worth it in my mind.

I happened to have a bunch of sticky rice with me and made a few new friends that day !

I'll be back there on Dec 25th after swimming in waterfalls at Erawan and will report back again.

Enjoy your trip, but be aware that animals like tigers are never ever "tame" and you get close at your own risk. Lonely Planet tells of a tourist being mauled awhile back and we all should know about Roy of Siefried and Roy.

Hi, i read that someone said lonely planet did not reccommend going but i have not been able to find the article. Do you have the link?

Well we are booked and paid for and i would not be able to stop my husband if i wanted so we shall just proceed with caution. We will be there on the 28th dec (leave for Thailand on the 26th)

Are we allowed to feed the tigers something or did you just sneak? LOL.
