Cat Cdma - Internet Connection

Featured Replies

Ive done some searching here on ThaiVisa, but I am really looking for an up to date view about connecting to the internet using the CAT CDMA system, ive read a past report that ...

CAT Telecom is preparing to abandon CDMA technology for its money-losing mobile-phone service and migrate to the GSM system that is in more widespread use throughout the world.

By chance ive just learned that my house is within the CAT CDMA system range

see here for the coverage map .... http://www.catcdma.com/about_as/coveragearea/

The CDMA SHOP ... http://www.thailandcdma.com/shop/

As I am all ways looking to improve my internet connection speeds ( dial up + EDGE ) and wondered if the CAT CDMA system may still be a viable option ? or should I just forget it :o

Any one know the current situation , or can comment please TL

Yes. Viable option. Works well. Depending on where you are, it might be faster than DSL even. I sometimes get 150KB/s on CAT CDMA. Other times (Samui) it's as slow as Edge.

As for abandoning CDMA - that will happen as soon as AIS and DTAC, as well as True and TOT roll out country-wide 3G services, according to the papers any day now :D :D According to AIS that rollout will also make DSL obsolete, so watch out DSL users! :o
