Cabinet gives green light to Olympic bid

TRANG: -- Thailand moved closer to making a bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games today when the proposal won official cabinet endorsement.

Deputy Government Spokesman Topong Chaiyasan said that the cabinet had made its decision in the light of recent findings by a committee established to look at the International Olympic Committee's criteria for hosting the games.

The committee ruled that Bangkok would be ready to host the Olympics in 2016, citing cooperation between the government and local residents, adequate infrastructure and transport systems, experience in holding international sporting events and financial preparedness.

Mr. Topong said that the cabinet felt that hosting the games would hugely benefit Thailand, both in terms of revenue and in the development of Thailand's sports sector.

The government committee working on Thailand's hosting of the 2007 University Games will then draw up a detailed plan for Thailand's Olympic bid.

Oh Baby - Corruption Central!

Just imagine it, Thai government officials desperate for the games to come to BKK on one side, The notoriously corrupt Olympic Committee on the other...

...would be a better duel than any athletic event!

We are talking some SERIOUS cloak-and-dagger stuff here SPOT ON!

keep watching the news....

If it takes over 30 years to build the new international airport which still won't be ready for KT's cut off date and there was so much corruption how can they even think of hosting the Olympic games in only 12 years.

On the other hand perhaps KT will not be around to see it fall apart and somebody else will get the blame.

Thailand "the hub of the 2016 Olympics", or another pipe dream?
