bkk_mike
At the moment, I'm stranded in Hong Kong. I was supposed to fly back to Thailand today, but am now stuck here. The hotel is 3000 HKD a day (so even if I was offered the 2000 baht a day they're offering stranded tourists in Thailand, it would be useless). I want to make the people behind PAD pay, by not buying stuff from them, or dealing with them. Who knows what companies the people behind the PAD are linked to so I can boycott them? londonthai
on some related thread http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Dtac-Close-H...tml&hl=dtac were mentioned Bangkok Bank, DTAC, ThaiBev (beer chang), Novotel
bkk_mike
Thanks so far, I already don't use DTAC, don't drink Beer Chang, and haven't stayed at an Accor hotel in about 15 years. However, me and my wife do have accounts at Bangkok Bank, so we could move money out of those, into our SCB accounts.
toybits
Better file a class action suit against the bast-rds... Keep them busy with multiple lawsuits so they have no more time to make more mischief. bkk_mike
Sue? I'm not American. But you are a douchebag. You're not paying £300 a day at a hotel in Hong Kong because of these idiots. There's nothing I can do except make a point of actively NOT supporting the people behind the PAD by avoiding the companies involved.
tw25rw
Hopefully, when tourism related businesses dump staff, PAD supporters will be the first to go. I personally never had reason to gripe about Thaksin (except maybe earlier bar closing), but I will likely have to cancel a long awaited and expensive trip this week because some scum led by a megalomaniac shut down the airport with the tacit support of people in high places. I hope they all suffer great misfortune and early deaths.

Incidentally, there's at least one air stewardess (Thai Airways at a guess) amongst the protesters - she was interviewed by BBC TV. If I can find a clip I'll either post the link, or, name & shame her on here. Once BKK does open the knock on effects are also going to affect travellers who aren't even going to Thailand i.e. it's highly likely that people will be bumped off their flights to hubs such as DOH in order to accommodate those waiting in their home countries to get to BKK. Or are the PAD occupying all the HK hotels bar they one you're staying in? While I sympathise with your plight, blaming the protest for you losing 300 quid a day is a bit rich. Agreed, there are many options to reduce the financial strain. A cheaper hotel is a start, and there are good hotels in HK that go for half and less that rate. Go to Macao and have a casino subsidize your stay, perhaps get your money back at the slot machines. Move over to Guangzhou and stay there. Fly to the Philippines, Malaysia, Vietnam. All cheaper alternatives. Considering that the airports may need an additional week or more to be fully operational again, the savings potential is still huge even with another international flight involved. Don't blame it on the PAD! The evidence of the electoral fraud was published by the Election Committee in May 2008. If the court verdict would have been decided without delay, the airports would never have been occupied. But the government was keen to delay the verdict up to the last minute, first: using the time to amend the charter, and second: building the infrastructure of a new "proxy" party which then will be installed after the dissolution of the PPP. It's best to get unpleasant things over and done with.

I like the hotel, so why move? (The amount isn't an issue - it's the principal of being stuck here) Add in that I'm round the corner from the company's office in HK, so at least I've been able to work, and not lose pay while I'm here.
