Dear all,

Need to ask all you guys out there for some helpful suggestions. My girlfriend is a 4th year university student, she has a 3 week break in end of September. I would like to ask her to visit me in Australia during October, however, I have little money and she had little money in her accounts. What is the best way for her to apply a visa to see me?? She has never gone overseas before, so this would be the 1st time for her to apply visa. What can I do to help her applying the visa successfully??

:o thanks

Don't waiste your time and money. From my experience with the Oz embassy in Bangers, based on what you have said, they will not grant her a visa.

Wal,

I think you've left it a bit late as the visa may take more than 2 months to process (that's if they approve it anyway). My advice is to get your gf to ask one of her senior lecturers at the uni to write an official letter stating that she needs to go to oz for 3 weeks to further her research/collect data/attend seminar/conference or whatever lie you can think of that will get the bureaucrones to approve the visa. Note that it's the oz embassy, not the thai one, so the little pink envelope won't help.

Wallace....that she is so advanced in her course will assist as the Australians look for a " compelling " for her to return to Thailand after the visit. If you too are short of readies, you may find it just too hard. A letter of support from her Dean will help. If you are in Thailand, go into the Embassy with her. Ensure that she is conservatively dressed and not made up. All western Embassies treat women as if they are on a break from work in the streets of delight.

Thanks for all the helpful suggestions,

She is currently studying Hotel & Tourisms in Phuket, she will graduate by end of this year. So there is no reason that she will not go back to Thailand by common sense. However, I am currently in Melbourne, so I cannot go with her to the OZ Embassy. She used to wear jeans, and she never make up, so that should be fine.

I am not sure whether her senior lecturer is willing to lie for her, how about an invitation letter from me to her?? What kind of bullshits I should make in my letter in order for her to apply the visa successfully ?? I've talked to my buddies, and they are willing to lend me some money to put in my account, so that it will look good if they need some kind of account balance.

cheers

Wallace,

They are not interested in your bank balance. It is hers that they will want to see. My GF had approx 150,000 bht in her bank (gradually built up over many years, not a lump sum deposit from me 2 weeks before the visa application) as well as quite a large amount of traveller's cheques.

They still knocked her back.

Hi ,

Don't worry.. it does not take 2 months to get a visa to australia. If she has all the papers she knows it by one day. Another way for you is to go for the sponsored visitors visa.. U have a house or property in Australia?

check out their website for all their information. Please tell us how the case is doing. Because I have exactly the same case. My gf is 4th year uni student coming over in her semester break!!

Wallace,

I have just been through this process and there are 2 things that they want absolute proof of and an underlying third. Also, I am assuming that she already has a thai passport.

1. She has enough funds to support herself in Australia, ie she wont work. This can be either her bank account showing a consistent build up of funds (no idea what the number is, but I would think it to be very large) over time or a letter from you stating you will be financially responsible for her in Australia. Unfortunately, this requires proving you can actually provide the support (your bank statements). I don't know your circumstances, but maybe your parents could gurantee her financial support.

2. She will return. This requires proving she has a very good reason to return. Finishing studies probably won't be sufficient, although a letter from her professor will at least help. Funnily enough, if had a child it would work in her favour for getting a visa, but a letter from an employer is generally required.

The underlying factor, as mentioned before, is how she looks. Wearing jeans may not be the best option as the visa office is full of jean wearing girls all looking to get a trip to Australia.

The good news is that the decision is given pretty much on the spot. You take a number, wait til you are called, they ask for all your supporting paperwork, ask a lot of questions to ascertain the ligitimacy of the request, tell you to take a seat then call you back in a short time with a decision.

I have heard people had to go back the next day to retreive their passports, but I was given my gf's back when the visa was approved.

In summary, from what you have posted about your and her financial positions and the lack of proof that she will return and also your inability to be with her at the embassy, I would think that it will be unlikely they will issue her with a visa. I may be wrong as the decisions aren't always consistent as I am sure the forum can atest.

Something to consider, when you apply thay charge you Bt1850 which is not refundable and she will have to travel to the embassy in Bangkok (I don't think they have one on Phuket but I may be wrong someone else may know for sure), so based on the small possibility that she will be granted a visa I would be inclined to advise that you wait this uni break out and make plans for you to return to see her in Thailand.

Good Luck

I agree Dr, it may have a better chance if she studying medicine or something else that could help the Australian economy, but Australia is full of hospitality graduates and it is regarded as a very nomadic profession with many people visiting and staying.

But who knows, everyone gets lucky sometimes

Thanks a lot for all your helpful suggestions,

I think I may write a letter to financially sponsor her during her visit, because she has no money in her bank (her parents are not that rich). I can borrow money from my friend to show that I do have account balance. By the way, her family has a good background though, because her dad is a professor and her mom is a high school teacher; and her sister is also studying university in BKK. She is a hard working student, and I hope the letter and the account balance will be sufficient for her to come here for a 3 weeks holidays.

By the way, how much money needed to be in my account ($US or $AU) to convince the OZ embassy officer to grant her the visa?? It seems like Thai people have little chance to go overseas by themselves if the restrictions is so high :-(((

cheers
