Getting Into Thailand/bangkok

Featured Replies

Hi to you all, well first of all my condolences to anyone who is or has family or friends stuck out there in Bangkok right now. I am just hoping and praying this situation comes to a peaceful end soon.

I might be in a minority here but my concern is not getting out of Thailand, rather getting in. I have already booked my flight/hotels by myself on the net (so no agent to help me) and I am due to fly out from Manchester to Bangkok via Dubai on December 24th. I have seen on the Emirates Website that they are offering alternatives to flying into Bangkok, notably flights to other airports in Thailand from Dubai. I was wondering if anyone knows which airports and how far they are from Bangkok.

As I said, I just hope this situation gets resolved soon but if it continues the last thing I want to do is to cancel the whole trip.

Many thanks.

I would avoid Bangkok and take an alternate route. It may add a day to your travels, but is by far the surest bet at this time, especially if you have a long holiday. I think it would be better to give up half a day to be sure of getting into Bangkok.

Many flights advertised are advertised as going into Chaing Mai, Phuket and even Hua Hin just outside of Bangkok is adding flights to Singapore and Hong Kong so I assume they need incoming flights too. None of these places is that hard to get to Bangkok from. If they fly you into U Tapao, down here by Pattaya, that could be OK also. I hear the travel away from there is not too bad. Guys have said that traffic at 3 am was nil. Don't know about the middle of the day. It might still be chaos at that time. The roads down to Pattaya are hardly super high ways.

I hear Phenom Penh is getting a bit busy for departures, but probably OK for arrivals. But that can add a day of bus or minivan travel down to Bangkok.

Most likely U Tapao near Rayong, as gk has said.

Etihad are using that airport too along with some other airlines.

Best of luck on you getting back, I'll be joining in the flight fun to U Uapao next week :o

Agreed. Things will be fine until at least the next election.

News is that the airport will be back open on the 4th in time for the Birthday.

You shouldn't have any problems

Fingers crossed because I fly in on Friday. I bet there will be delays and cancellations for a little while though.

I fly out on Sunday (Sydney) so I hope things are normal. I know they set up home in the lounges, so I hope they are still open.

Good luck anyway..

Suvarnaphumi Airport may be up and running again but it's gonna be another week they reckon before all is fully operational as before.

Prepare for delays but don't be put off, things are looking a lot better.
