I called my local thai consulate in Florida (I'm a US Citizen) and asked what I needed to get my visa. They told me I needed 2 passport photos, my flight information, passport, and a copy of my bank statement.

I don't have much money in my bank account and was wondering if $1200 was enough to show to them.

If this is for a tourist visa $1200 is enough. They are wanting to see the equivalent of 20,000 baht. The DC embassy website says $500 or $1000 for a family.
