EDITOR'S NOTE

I am finding it hard to write a word about tomorrow (December 5) as it is a day that the entire nation is going to give thanks to their fathers for everything that they have done throughout the years.

After all it is Father's Day and it is one day that most people tend to head to their parent's home to show their gratitude towards their fathers.

This day has a special meaning to me, as I once I was about to lose my father some five years ago after he suffered from a stroke. Having been a child who always has his way or no way at all, I had always taken my parents for granted and arguments (constructive I must insist) was part of my everyday life.

But ever since that dreaded day, my life has changed and until today and for years to come, I shall try to remain least argumentative as possible.

The feeling of the nearly losing a loved one has taught me a good lesson, and I have made it a point to spend time with my parents at least once a week if not more. Days like Father's Day have a special meaning to most of us, but just imagine what would it be like if every day or every week of the year was a day that we all cared for the old folks similar to the way they cared and nurtured us when we were toddlers and were growing up.

The busy lifestyles may not permit some of us to undertake the care on a daily or weekly basis. But remember, a monthly visit, outings, dinners, movies, walks in the park and even beach trips could bring smile on your parent's faces, which could extend their lifespan by a few more years.
