I really can't be arsed with all of this crap, sure it's great for kids but for me it is just a major pain in the arse and all because of something that happened to some bloke 2000 odd years ago.

It's not all bad though because my now traditional holiday to Koh Samet with friends and family is now booked. GET IN!!!!!!. I absolutely love going to the beach and being in Bangkok all year round makes it even more exciting. I may even get a little festive and have a turkey roast on the beach (depending on the severity of my hangover).

So what are the TV lot doing then?

Going to the beach such as myself? Somewhere nice inland? Staying home with friends/family? or just sat on cowboy/nana/walking street sucking on a bottle of chang?

Staying home with kids. New Year has become more the main holiday - we're going to Bangkok.

Work, like I have done the last 20 years (work in a hotel and Christmas is high season).

Up in Khon Kaen the snow is thick on the ground. All the villagers are busy making mince pies and christmas pudding. The turkeys that have been fattened up during the hot and rainy season are being brought up by poor families for christmas dinner. There is an uncanny air of good will to all men about the village and last night the gf and I had our first carol singers....gave 'em 10 baht for their troubles. Even the local shopping malls are playing christmas carols for the festive shoppers although the icy roads makes getting to them hazardous.

If I'd stayed back in England it would just be Som dtam as usual. Glad I'm here

I will spend some quality time with wife, family and friends. We are going to sit around and bitch about our jobs and complain about how much we spend on X-max every year. It's our yearly ritual

Of course all this takes place after a delicious meal, all the men napping in front of Television, and women gathering in the kitchen talking about how the men should be cleaning-up the mess instead of sleeping.

Having travelled widely sometimes at Christmas, won't be in Thailand this time (heading for pastures new) may I say to you residents of Thailand or visitors for Christmas Thailand is the place to be. With all it's ups and downs Thailand is still a magical place and Christmas is a magical time. Am trying to say, badly as usual, Christmas is very overrated and commercialised in some of your home countries so lucky you if you are going to be there at that time of year for, even with all it's trials there is a simplicity about Thailand (and also a retribution) of a kind which can remind you of the first Christmas.

Don't know what some guy 2000 years ago has got to do with it or this Christian stuff but me and the boys from the tribe will be having our usual mid-winter Saturnalia bash up in the mountains. Get a good log fire going, kill something and chuck it on and then get some good old grog down our necks. After that we'll probably take a slow saunter down mud track number 6 see if anything takes our fancy .

Unfortunately I can't make it over to Thailand this year and apart from the 25th will be working. But I'll raise a glass or three to friends old, new and future and my mind will no doubt drift off to some sunny, sandy beach.

btw it's turned bluddy cold here, not severe as some locations but bad enough for someone used to tropical climes and I'm told it will get worse .

You mean sleeping in a straw hut with the pigs and chickens all lit up in festive manner with candles , waitng for the 3 monks to tap on the door with their begging cans , now that is simplicity in all its glory .

Xmas day will be in Chiang Mai having a few quiet beers and the only Turkey i wanna see will have to be in a curry, stir fry or noodle soup.

New year will be by the beach in Koh Samui.

If the airports are open, I'm flying to Devon for back to back holiday dinners with close friends and family.

If not, I'm happy to stay here in Bangkok. Happy, because I'll have skipped the hassle of a longhaul and the yearly expected drizzle and gone straight to the fun.

So it'll be either friends, family, and food food food, drink drink drink and yet more drink. Or fancy free fun in the sun.

Either one is fine by me.

On 24th, Christmas Eve, will be on the Lomprayah bus heading to Koh Phangan.

With a nice picnic hamper and a descent bottle of wine...

Hope by traveling that date that will have a lot of empty seats!?!
