Just reviewing some of the recent posting on here and I'm getting the message that the police and the army were complicit in the yellow PAD faschist , illegal occupation of the airport, so stood back.

However if the reds were to similarly occupy the airport in protest at their grievances, they are to be wiped out by the police and army.

That sounds to me like ethnic cleansing.

Anybody from the militant, armed paramilitary, faschist , anti-government terrorist PAD care to inform us of their views on ethnic cleansing.

I don't think you know the meaning of ethnic cleansing.

I wonder why the red shirt supporters only seems to be able to use words as Terrorists, Fachists, and spreading hate.

The international media who used words like militant, armed PAD paramilitaries, fascist, antigovernment terrorists to describe the PAD padare all red supporters then !

Great, perhaps you could enlighten us all then on the views of PAD fascists on ethnic cleansing.

Credibility on the line, or will the ale in you carry on talking.

Prime Minister Chavarat Charnvirakul

House Speaker Chai Chidchob

Senate Speaker seeks court ruling on legality of MPs

Senate Speaker Prasopsuk Boondej has sought a Constitution Court ruling on the status of the caretaker Cabinet and the acting PM. Mr Prasopsuk filed a petition at the Constitution Court after being approached by Senator Ruangkrai Leekitwattana. Mr Ruangkrai asked the Senate Speaker to seek the Constitution Court's ruling on three issues. He wanted to know whether former PM Somchai's dismissal following the dissolution of the PPP would also mean the termination of the ministerial terms of all members of his Cabinet. Mr Ruangkrai also questioned if Deputy PM Chavarat Charnvirakul could serve as acting PM according to the Cabinet resolution on Dec 3. He also wanted clarification of whether the dissolution of the three political parties also meant the termination of the terms of their Party-list MPs. Mr Prasopsuk said he forwarded Mr Ruangkrai's first two questions to the Constitution Court. But he did not seek a court ruling on the third. He said the constitution did not authorise Senators to seek Constitution Court rulings on the status of MPs. Only MPs and the EC have that right. Mr Ruangkrai said yesterday he had petitioned the EC in his capacity as a Thai citizen on the legality of the Party-list MPs. If the dissolution affected the status of the Party-list MPs, it could be a problem for the forthcoming special session of the House of Representatives, Mr Ruangkrai said. A similar petition was lodged with the EC by Chaiwat Sinsuwong, one of the key leaders of the anti-Thaksin PAD. Mr Chaiwat insisted House Speaker Chai Chidchob, a Party-list member of the dissolved PPP, could not chair the upcoming special House session to elect a new PM. Mr Chaiwat asked EC Chairman Apichart Sukhagganond, in his capacity as the Political Party Registrar, to rule on the legality and functionality of Party-list MPs and constituency MPs of dissolved parties as well as the legality of the acting PM.

Supporters of Thai Government Demand Revenge

For once there are no demonstrations crippling the cities, no political murders, no airports or government buildings occupied by protesters. Thailand, a land of Buddhas and beaches, shaken by a severe political crisis, is taking a breather before the warring parties resume their struggle for power. In the second round, government supporters in the north, known as the "Reds," are determined not to allow themselves to be forced onto the defensive by "Yellows."

The bitter struggle for power has raged for weeks. Bloody attacks shook the capital city of Bangkok almost daily. Bombs were detonated and political hooligans armed with grenade launchers and pistols fought in the streets. The violence has already claimed at least five lives and left dozens injured.

A preliminary end to the violence came last week, when Thailand's Constitutional Court censured and banned the People's Power Party (PPP), in power since December 2007, as well as two of its coalition partners. Prime Minister Somchai Wongsawat was forced to resign. At that point, the protesters ended their siege of the two airports and celebrated the court's ruling as a victory.

But the judges' ruling did nothing to change the power struggle. Most of the PPP's members of parliament simply joined the Puea Thai, a party that was formed some time ago to absorb members of the PPP.

Kwanchai Paipanna, an activist, is already preparing for the future. He's the leader of People Love Udon, a group of government supporters that stormed an event being held in Udon Thani by the People's Alliance for Democracy and beat up members. "We will form a people's militia," says Kwanchai. "We are already collecting money, and there will be many of us: at least 10,000 men."

Kwanchai plans to lead his militia in an assault on Bangkok, should the Yellows make another play for power.

When this f*****g generals going to realize to keep their mouth shut. They only have to obbey orders thats all. In a democracy its the minister of defence who give their orders and hes always an civilian.

Well, this isn't a democracy. The military isn't going to give away the power to goofballs just becaue they claim to be "democratic".

And by power I don't mean opportunities to enrich themselves (that is a common defintition of power held in democracies), I mean the power to serve and protect the people, power that comes from service and dedication to the just cause.

To make it clear - the top military brass at this point is acting selflessly and they derive their power not from guns but from being right and being accepted by the people as such. They can't drive their tanks or fly their plains to supress the people, that's not where their power comes from, they can only stand up for what is right and HOPE it WILL be accepted by the people - this is the source of their power, and thus it WILL be obeyed, as long as they are percieved as acting in genuine interests of the country and the people.

"Well, this isn't a democracy." end of story, no need to post ever again :o

Coffins for 'traitors'

By The Nation

Published on December 10, 2008

Members of the Friends of Newin group, who have decided to back the Democrats, found bombs, coffins and wreaths at their houses yesterday.

However, Nakhon Ratchasima MP Boonchong Wongtrairat said he refused to be intimidated, saying the explosive device found in his home was just a threat. Boonchong was in Bangkok at the time of its discovery. Earlier, two coffins had been placed in front of the house, along with a letter that said Boonchong lacked ideology and signed by the Korat People Love Democracy group.

The group had decided to support Democrat to form a government, regardless of whom it chooses to nominate as prime minister, he said. The would talk other coalition parties to switch sides too, he said.

Meanwhile, 20 red-shirted demonstrators placed wreaths in front of the houses of Khon Kaen MPs Panya Sripanya and Prachak Klaewklahan. The demonstrators later handed a bouquet of flowers to Chakarin Patdamromgchit, a Khon Kaen MP who still supports Pheu Thai.

Pheu Thai now calling for a national govt

By Naya Jaikawang

The Nation

Published on December 10, 2008

Pheu Thai Party has changed its stance and decided to push for a national government, claiming no other administration could solve the country's woes.

It has given the job of lobbying other coalition parties to Pracharaj Party leader Snoh Thienthong.

Pheu Thai deputy leader Kanawat Wasinsungworn, secretary-general Sunee Lueangwichit and Chiang Mai MP Surapong Towijakchaikul held a joint press conference to announce this decision yesterday.

Surapong said: "The party has agreed to let Snoh coordinate the formation of a new government with other parties. The Democrats will not be left out. This decision has been made to solve the economic and political crises.

"The new prime minister should come from a smaller party, not Pheu Thai or the Democrats. Otherwise, the conflicts will not be solved," Surapong told the press, before adding that Snoh had a Plan B if the idea fell through.

Surapong said the party did not make this decision because it could not find support to take office, but because it realised all sides should get together to solve the country's problems.

At present, he said, the party had 225 MPs, which might be enough to form a government but it would be difficult to make it work.

And while the caretaker PM could dissolve the House, it would not be the answer. Surapong also said he didn't know if former premier Thaksin Shinawatra had okayed the plan for a national government, but said he thought Thaksin would agree with it.

But Lop Buri MP Suchart Lainamngern was more direct. He said Pheu Thai was using this as a strategy to block the Democrats from forming a government.

MPs are expected to vote for a new prime minister on Monday or Tuesday. If Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva does not win, a national government would have to be formed, Suchart said.

However, a source, who asked not to be named, said Pheu Thai had not given up hope of wooing back MPs from the now disbanded People Power Party and 'Friends of Newin' faction. In fact, the party would do anything to find support, even if it meant using connections and calling in favours, the source said.

I don't condone any violence against the yellows other than to prevent illegal actions, but it is difficult to deny that their recent shenanigans have caused a lot more people loss of income and big problems than anything that the reds have been doing lately.

Murdering people by launching grenades and throwing grenades causes more than just a slow down of income to the people that are dead.

There was violence on both sides, but only one side was blockading streets and closing down airports. :o

And as that does seem like a fair assessment.. No one wonders WHY the 'rural' Reds feel like downtrodden and ruled from above by a group that doesnt have thier interests.. Is there any way to create more division in this society than sending these clear signals ??

I dislike Tacky, but I dislike the PAD even more..

----- {shortened for brevity} -----

At present, he said, the party had 225 MPs, which might be enough to form a government but it would be difficult to make it work.

And while the caretaker PM could dissolve the House, it would not be the answer. Surapong also said he didn't know if former premier Thaksin Shinawatra had okayed the plan for a national government, but said he thought Thaksin would agree with it.

Pheu Thai Party (or whatever name it's using this week) is desperate, and will leave no stone unturned in keeping its claws on power. I don't doubt Ms Pojaman and her ex-husband behind the curtain (like The Wizard of Oz) - will be frantically trying to dump money bags and favors on anyone who may go with PTP.

I don't condone any violence against the yellows other than to prevent illegal actions, but it is difficult to deny that their recent shenanigans have caused a lot more people loss of income and big problems than anything that the reds have been doing lately.

Blockading streets and closing transport hubs are withing the definition of "non-violent and/or peaceful protest.' With tens of thousands of protesters, there are bound to be some fringe elements who carry weapons and/or cherish violent encounters. Overall however, when one considers the long sustained duration of PAD demonstrations (many months) and their large numbers of supporters, PAD has been quite controlled and effective. On the other hand, the red shirts, with their considerably smaller numbers - have shown eagerness to be violently confrontational. Sadly, I see the red shirts as inciting more violence in the near term, especially if Abhisit gets the PM spot.

Much has been made of the violence and deaths from the demonstrations but it is really amazing at the few deaths that actually occurred. I'd guess that there are more traffic deaths in Bangkok each day than during this entire debacle. This fact doesn't make violence acceptable but violence was minimal.

what a funny.

remember that team of urophagist that recently hold a meditation session called "hiroshima" at the airport? peaceful asphalt & tarmac Camper, cute litte yellow smurfs and a anorexic teletubby as leader. but some people don't get it and that caused lot of noise and disturbance. ohh boy, i tell you, big action, you can google the story. but actually, and not many people know that, they had a mission "support for good people to manage the country and blocking of evil people from coming to power". kinda buffy the vampire slayer, but full show 24/7 on television.

one of the evil forces they saw in a man with the name Newin Chidchob, he is a evil khmer wizard.

Spiritual rites and incantations have been performed by the PAD on numerous occasions.

The rituals, which have been conducted in various forms, have usually been held after Mr Sondhi has told demonstrators about black magic performed by his enemies, especially the one he calls the "Khmer wizard", as they attempt to destroy the PAD and strengthen their side.

The Khmer wizard is said to be Newin Chidchob, a former Thai Rak Thai executive and one of Thaksin's close aides.

There have also been reports of PAD members placing used sanitary napkins at the statue of King Rama V to counter the black magic of the Khmer wizard, which is supposedly blocking the statue's power backing the PAD.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/101108_News/10Nov2008_news09.php

that is of course utter BS like the other stories of PAD, but it got firmly believed by cult fellowers and little brainers. PAD was not just a fad, much more, PAD is obsessive belief in the power of trashy plastic clappers. last week they declared a victory and dispered, but now is that evil khmer wizard in the news and Abhisit the man believed to be the next PM give him roses. are they not afraid that this can bring back the yellow mob? and here on TVforum how will PAD compurgation low style troll mob react on this. different things motivates them envy on rich people, hate of police, misogyny, gerontophilia and lot of them really get hooked up on that devil story. they have FEAR. now they must watch how Abhisit listen to the Khmer wizard.

Newin is also banned from politics for 5 years by the constitutional tribunal (may 2007). did't he could send his wife, brother, uncle, dad, whoever to tell Abhisit whats going on now and wait behind in the background to make it not to obviously.can nobody in newins 'yes men rat pack' speak for themself?

is that a victory now? will PAD issue a blessing, is it the big reconciliation? after so much drama about democracy back to the daily soap show. funny.

PD I understand that English is not your first language, and I therefore try to make allowances for that when I (try to) read your posts/rants.

However, after struggling through the above, I have now come to the conclusion that you must write your posts in your native language, and then use a very, very bad online translator to arrive at something like the above.

Perhaps if you tried to simplify your (English) language you may have more success in getting your messages across. And you could still fill them with bile and hatred.

This is an indication that Apisit will do anything to be PM.

To be fair, I would do the same.

Yes, tossing grenades and using rifle launched grenades almost daily for awhile definitely shows "patience and restraint"

Yes on the whole the Reds have shown patience in the face of intolerable provocation by the PAD movement.Don't assume the grenade throwers represent the decent majority. The same can be said of the majority of PAD protestors a propos the core of vicious thugs that have dishonoured the nation.Basically it's futile to start arguing about street violence.

Funny, your argument is always that the whole of PAD is as bad as the worst person we see in the press, be it street hooligans, rogue guards or a psychotic leader.

Truth is of course that the majority, on neither the yellow or red camp, is not any of these.

Is this something you can agree on now?

Spoil Isaan : Newin tells Abhisit

Former foe links up with Democrats as coalition moves gather strength

BANGKOK: -- Democrat Party leader Abhisit Vejjajiva has received good advice from former adversary Newin Chidchob: "If you were to dish Bt100 billion into Isaan, pretty soon the Isaan people would forget Thaksin [shinawatra]."

The irony of Thai politics was played out fully at the Siam City Hotel yesterday when Abhisit presented a bouquet of roses to Newin before hugging and shaking hands.

Newin, who has been banned from politics for five years, still musters serious political clout because a faction of 37 MPs from the defunct People Power Party offer a crucial swing vote to catapult Abhisit into the premiership.

In 1995, Newin launched a fierce no-confidence debate that critically brought down the Democrat-led government. And until just recently he had been considered Thaksin's right-hand man.

Newin told Abhisit that if, after assuming the top office, he were to focus on helping people in the Northeast - such as raising the guaranteed price for maize from Bt1.80 to Bt2 per kilo - he would certainly win their hearts.

"If the Democrats can perform in a way that wins over the Isaan people's hearts, the people there would soon forget Thaksin," he reportedly told Abhisit. "Other programmes at the ground level for the Northeast must be clear and tangible. The Isaan people would give the Democrats a chance. The government should stay on for at least two years."

Abhisit now appears to be just a few steps away from taking over as Thailand's 27th prime minister.

Yesterday key leaders of the Ruam Jai Thai Chart Pattana, Puea Pandin, Matchima Thipataya and Chart Thai Pattana parties met at the Four Seasons Hotel to reaffirm their support for the Democrats to become the core of a new coalition government.

Along with additional support from the Newin faction and other MPs, Democrat Party secretary-general Suthep Thaugsuban claimed he already had commitments from 260 MPs, a comfortable margin over the necessary 215. Parliament currently has 428 MPs.

The emergence of a Democrat-led government would deal a big blow to ex-prime minister Thaksin's comeback ambitions. His Pheu Thai Party, a reincarnation of the defunct People Power, looks more fragile than previously. The prospect of Pheu Thai serving in opposition will undermine Thaksin's influence in Parliament, the police and the bureaucracy, which has helped prop up his power.

Sanan Kachornprasart, a leader of the Chart Thai Pattana Party, said the four parties had resolved to stick together and, if they faced problems, would reach a decision together. They had vowed not to steal MPs from each other, he said.

Asked whether Abhisit could not be voted in as PM because he did not pass military conscription, Sanan said if the Democrat had committed any offence he would not have been hired to teach at the Chulachomklao Royal Military Academy - or given a military rank.

Leading Democrats, including secretary-general Suthep, and core members of the 'Friends of Newin' faction turned out to witness Abhisit and Newin seal their political deal.

Seen smiling at the event was former Thai Rak Thai executive Anuthin Chanweerakul, son of caretaker Prime Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul. This quelled fears Chaovarat might dissolve the House in order to prevent an Abhisit-led government.

Newin said he had based his shift on four things: hope the Democrats can lift the country out of turmoil, the need to urgently address the plight of the poor, rewrite the charter and uphold the law.

"I want to ensure every Democrat that nothing can make me waver in my stand on the vote for prime minister," he said in reference to intense lobbying efforts for the coalition led by the Pheu Thai Party.

It was no time for games that could fuel further political uncertainty, he noted.

Is this something you can agree on now?

Your first paragraph is a prescriptive definition.I have never said that, in fact have gone out of my way to distinguish between the PAD rank and file on one side and the gruesome leadership/thug element on the other.I agree your second paragraph though some PAD protagonists on this forum would not.

I do think that the PAD rank and file are misled, but at the same time I recognise that many - particularly in the early stages - were decent and principled people, sickened by the corruption of politicians.I think it's a little like joining the communist party in the 1930's, a perfectly reasonable response in the face of evil. However after the excesses of Stalin and the invasion of Hungary, only fools and knaves remained.I'm not saying PAD members are all fools and knaves by the way.

Intellectually I have a problem with PAD's ideology because there seems to be no give and take. You can see that even on this forum with a few honourable exceptions.I don't know that much detail about the Reds but doubt whether they are more than a reactive force, albeit potentially a very large one.I have no doubt there's a thuggish element in their ranks. If truth be told all my instincts lead me to fear an uneducated mob.

But again I do agree your second paragraph.

I hope Newin does not mean vote buying. However, who know better than TRT banned #5.

The hidden intension of PAD is to rob Isaan, not charity to Isaan. Conflict of interest?

Puea Thai Party (PTP) Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit

Puea Thai denies proposing national government, due to its political disadvantage

The leader of the Puea Thai Party (PTP) denies proposing the establishment of a national government, due to its political disadvantage and says the current political problems are solved on a day-to-day basis.

Puea Thai Leader Yongyuth Wichaidit said that the Party resolved to not nominate a candidate for the Prime Minister post in order to avoid problems in the future.

Other coalition parties should, therefore, name suitable people for PM candidates who would receive full support from Puea Thai Party, Yongyuth said.

Regarding the Party’s national government proposal, the Puea Thai Party Leader said his Party did not suggest the establishment of a national government because it was losing advantage in forming the new administration.

He added that the current political situation would still be volatile until an extraordinary parliamentary session to elect the new Prime Minister took place.

Yongyuth admitted that he could not say for sure whether the Democrat Party or the Puea Thai Party would form the new government.

"I want to ensure every Democrat that nothing can make me waver in my stand on the vote for prime minister," he said in reference to intense lobbying efforts for the coalition led by the Pheu Thai Party.

It was no time for games that could fuel further political uncertainty, he noted.

This headline explains another reason, apart from Thaksins desperation, why the Peau Thai will go to any length to remian in power even if as part of as unity government. Newin and other PPP cadres have been in abitter power struggle for control of the Isaan for some time now. Something had to give. Earlier Newins people sept local elections in places outside his sphere of influence affecting oter power groups in the party.

Right now Newin looks like a traitor to dear leader and darling of the Isaan Thaksin and his PPP/PTP party. However, when/if the Dems assume power and if they follow Newin's advice huge amounts of money may flood the Isaan raising the respect for both Dems and no doubt Newin while leaving PTP identifed as not part of it. To date Abhisit and now Newin have been villified by the PTP/PPP cadres. However, if they get to power and show they are not as they were painted things could change quickly.

Newin is gambling on hs action resulting in him controlling at least half the Isaan in the future and becoming Thailand's main future power broker. In return Abhisit gets to rewrite the Dem label in the Isaan. This it seems is the plan. It just needs to get past parliament and PTP will do anything to block it.

-- The Nation 2008-12-10

I hope Newin does not mean vote buying. However, who know better than TRT banned #5.

The hidden intension of PAD is to rob Isaan, not charity to Isaan. Conflict of interest?

:o:D :D

I don't condone any violence against the yellows other than to prevent illegal actions, but it is difficult to deny that their recent shenanigans have caused a lot more people loss of income and big problems than anything that the reds have been doing lately.

Murdering people by launching grenades and throwing grenades causes more than just a slow down of income to the people that are dead.

There was violence on both sides, but only one side was blockading streets and closing down airports. :o

And so you equate

multiple murder and mayhem by stealth as equal to blockading streets and closing down airports...

if so I truly feel sorry for you.

Not really; To rob Issan people; that's just PPP propaganda,

but the intention of PAD was to rob the Thaksin machine of support.

Excellent advice from Kuhn Newin of all people,

and the BEST POSSIBLE way out of this national abyss.

I would say exactly the same if I ever had his ear for 2 minutes.

Services for the north in good proportion, no strings attached.

Show them it's not JUST Thaksin that realizes they exist now....

The genie is out of the bottle, can't work with the old school modalities anymore.

And Abhisit is smart enought o realize this, just a question if his coalition

will move enough that way. I suspect it can and will for good logical reasons.

I wouldn't have normally thought of Newin as the potential savior of many lives,

but this advice is SPOT ON.

Put it simple.

Isan : win, check last Newin statement

Newin : Big time winner, I don't like to brag but I was right when I called Newin the "PM maker" in an earlier thread.

Democrat : They sold their soul, what they won is not really clear, but when the only thing you can say about your leader is "he is good looking", you can't expect much.

Thaksin : Doesn't look too good for the time being but he's a survivor. I still support the guy ....

There was violence on both sides

If I write, "Dick and Jane saw violence on both sides", does that help you understand better? :o

it was your "but" that put it into comparison.

Maybe not how you intended it to be seen, but that's what it said on the page.

I am going to stay away from the won/lost comments and keep it more simple. The Democrats are being given an opportunity to bring this country together AND put to rest their poor reputation in the northeast. I hate to say it, but Newin is right. If they kill the northeast with kindness, these people will not only think of Thaksin as their savior.

The trick is how to do it.

While Newin was referring to pouring money into the northeast, the more important issue is dealing with the mountain of debt that is suffocating the people upcountry. This debt was created during Thaksin's easy credit administration, after he forgave the debt they previously had incurred freeing them up to buy new motorcycles, mobile phones etc. He did this to spur on the economy through consumer spending.

However, with Thailand's export markets declining, coupled with the recent political problems, the only out for Thailand from an economic standpoint is to stress domestic (private) investment and consumption and this is going to be very, very difficult without again providing easy credit.

One side basically only set up a defensive perimeter and responded when attacked (hel_l even the thugs shooting over near DM were attacked first -- but they still need to be tried for assault with intent)

The other side tossed grenades and fired grenades etc .... against fixed positions. Your 'violence on both sides' argument is specious
