Best Software For A Bar

Featured Replies

Any opinions on software to play DVD's (ripped to disk) and MP3's in a bar - No pause's, good x-fading between songs, option to have some sort of picture went MP3's are being played, easy to operate.

so far I have found Deejaysystem - any better ones out there?

Some bars have a customized jukebox. Take a look in one of the following bars on Soi Cowboy: Fanny's, Jungle Jim, Moonshine Joint, Toy Bar. It allows customers to add to the playlist and supports video files too.

But I've seen that some bars use simple solutions like WinAmp.

I know the system in those bars - 50,000THB and no copies as it comes with a 'usb dongle' to stop the copiers. Also it is a good system for the style of bars that use it the system I want needs to run in a more go go style of bar - so no pause's in between tracks (DVD/MP3) and customer jukebox choosing of music is not required.

DeeJay system comes in at €149 or about 7,000THB. and takes a copy of the computers hardware ID so you won't find it in Tuk Com / Pan thip

Winamp with the right 'plugins' is a great free system but only good for MP3's or Mpeg VDO - I don't want to convert all the DVD files down to a compressed format unless i have to.

You don't have to convert DVD's for winamp.

Rip the DVD onto hard drive using a program such as smart ripper. You can tell smartripper to create a file for each chapter (= song).

Then use a bulk renaming program to change the .VOB extensions to .mpeg extensions. DVD video's are essentially high bitrate MPEG files but with a different extension.

And I even think Winamp doesn't even need the renaming, it should play the .VOB files straight away! Windows Media player does need the re-naming though...

You'll need heaps of hard drive space though, these high quality VOB files are pretty big!

Monty sounds interesting - I have tried the DVD - VDO files on winamp - it plays the audio but does not display the image, what would be a bulk renaming program?

Hard disk spave isn't too much of an issuse - 2 x 500Gb, 1 x 180Gb on said PC

I use ReNamer from Den4b. Freeware. Takes a bit of fiddling around with until it does what you want (i.e. only change the extension).

You can try winamp with renaming just 1 file from .vob to .mpeg

Although I reckon if it only plays audio, that winamp is missing some codecs. Download a multi-codec pack and try again!

This one seems to be suite for winamp, along with some extra video player capabilities:

Good luck!
