Pattaya Immigration Office Closed December 10

Recommended Posts

Immigration closed.

For those of you thinking of paying a visit to Pattaya immigration on Wednesday 10th December forget it as it’s closed.

Tuesday 9th December.

This morning i went to the Pattaya immigration office to apply for a residence certificate to buy a car.

After submitting my documentation I was issued with a number and told to return at 15.00hrs to collect my certificate to which I replied I had something else to do and would call in the morning (Wednesday) only to be told the immigration office would be closed.

Note: For those of you thinking of obtaining a residence certificate to buy a car, motorbike, obtain a Thai licence or open a bank account etc, you need the following.

1) A completed residence certificate form which is obtained at the immigration office.

2) Your passport

3) Photo copy of the the main page in your passport.

4) Photo copy your visa page (I have a 1-year retirement visa).

5) Photo copy your arrival card.

6) Proof of address (a document, Thai licence or suchlike containing your name and address in Thailand)

7) Two 6x4 photos which can be obtained outside the Pattaya immigration office for 100 baht for two.

8) 400 baht processing charge.

Obtain a ticket from the ticket issuing machine for number 9 which is a room to the left of the immigration office.

Your application will be processed the same day and ready to collect at 3pm for which you are issued with a number.

Thanks for that. Admittedly it's been a bit since I went to do the same, so it's interesting that previously...

1) was not required

7) used to be 2 normal passport-sized photos

8) used to be free

Perhaps I should hasten a trip down there for an anticipated new vehicle purchase prior to the addition of 9) and 10).

Thanks again.

10th December. Constitution Day . Public Holiday.

So all Immigration Offices should be closed as well as Thai Embassies and Consulates.

One of the perks of holding a work permit.

No visits to immigration needed for "residence" papers.

A WP holds both your home address and your work address and as such is accepted by most government departments as proof af residence/address, including the Department of Transport!

:D Good news: they offered you to collect it the same day - the last few times I have needed one I have had to collect it the following day, although it was always same day until about 18 months ago.

:o Bad news: 400 baht. Was 200 baht a few weeks ago, and everywhere else in Thailand is free.

I wonder if they charged you extra for the 'express' service as the office is closed tomorrow?

Out of curiosity, was that information given verbally, or was it a notice affixed on a wall, or was it on a leaflet handed out to interested persons?

I ssume your refering to buying a car/motorbike or obtaining a Thai licence etc.

It’s one of the questions on the form asking for what purpose do you want a residence certificate and gives a few suggestions with a tick box to each one.

As yet I haven’t collected my residence certificate which I’ll do on Thursday morning but with some of you suggesting the cost is 200 baht when I paid 400 baht made me wonder if I paid ‘twice’ as I ticket two boxes one to buy a car and another to buy a motorbike.

Maybe immigration will issue me with two certificates and might be the reason I paid 400 baht.

I’ll let you know when I’ve collected my certificate or ‘certificates’?

Thanks for the info. I put 800K Baht into a bank account on the 10th September and was going to apply for my next 1 year retirement extension today - the 10th December. You've saved me a trip to Soi 5. :D

Maybe I'll just wander into the bank this afternoon and get the letter anyway, and then apply for the extension tomorrow. Does anyone know if they are happy with an application the day after you get the letter from the bank about the 800K Baht, rather than on the day itself?

Edit: Hold on a moment, it's just occurred to me that the banks will probably be closed too, won't they? :o

That should be ok.

Are you sure that the bank is open?

I mean the residence certificate in general. In this post you said that Pattaya immigration gave you a list of eight requirements for the application and I wonder in what form this list was given to you, ie verbally or notice on the wall or list given to you to keep.

This is a correction to my original post.

The cost of a residence certificate is 200 baht and not 400 baht as stated in my original post.

When I submitted my application to immigration on Tuesday 9th December I’d ticked two boxes and for that was charged 400 baht for two certificates.

My apologies if I misled some of you guys but sometimes we don’t get it right at the first attempt.

There is a list of requirements inside the immigration office at the desk to the left as you enter.

Like many immigration requirements there is always an element of doubt on our part.

The list i wrote down in my original post is the documentation i submitted to ‘obtain’ my two residence certificates and ‘without question’.

I collected them this morning.

I consider everything to be a guide that will assist us all but lets not forget that requirements change from one immigration office to another and that interpretation of the immigration laws is not always the same from one region to another.

What I have written is applicable to the Pattaya immigration office only.

Thank you, nam-thip. My interest was in the last item in the list, the “processing fee”, which is irregular. If an immigration office gave out that list in writing and it came into the hands of immigration headquarters, the chief of the immigration office in question might get into trouble as the immigration office probably does not pay a tithe to the head office.
