1 Year Visa

Featured Replies

I have had a 1 year visa and work permit for a number of years with different companies. The company i am with now did not a good financial year in 2006 with their balance sheet showing loss. My current visa expires tomorrow (12th) and my "fixer" tells me that the immigaration might not renew because of the poor results and balance sheet in 2006. Anyone any ideas on what to do?

You can extend your permission to stay within the last 30 days, it is never wise to wait until the last day.

As for your problem, can't say I know of a solution or if immigraiton realy will be that strict. If the won't renew you have to leave the country the same day, but can get an extension for 7 days for 1,900 baht.

Agree they may not be that strict.

It appears that under the new rules the 7 days without getting an extension is back.

4. If the applicant does not fully meet the qualifications as prescribed by this order, the competent official shall inform the applicant for his/her denial and he/she departs within 7 days after the permission date ended.

Sorry Joe,

Old rules 606/2549:

"8. If the applicant does not fully meet the qualifications as prescribed by this Order, he/she is allowed further stay in Thailand to prepare for departure, but not exceeding 7 days from the expiration of the permission".The wording is a little different, but unfortunatly I can't see a change in policy here.

Then where is the rule saying you have to get an extension. You wouldn't think they would put that in if it did not apply

Or maybe it was this police order that has been replaced also.

1. The following orders are hereby repealed;

1.2 Order of the Royal Thai Police No. 56/2551 dated January 21, B.E. 2551.

Insn't that about the time they started making people pay for 7 day extensions.

You have to pay for a 7 day extenion and don't get one for free any more since 2006, with police order 606/2549.

Will have to wait and see if people report they get 7 days to leave for free, but as said in the text of the new regulations I can't see a change of policy. :o
