Need a work permit to rent a condo in bangkok?

Recently I moved to Bangkok as a tourist, and rented a condo then I transferred to new unit just above it. That's when the landlord started to ask about my work permit(I don't need it since I am only here for a long vacation). Is a workpermit  really necessary to rent a condo? I never heard of it before. Please advise me on this.

Confused,

No, work permit is not mandatory for renting a condo. Many retired foreigners rent condos and houses without it...

Maybe the owner wanted to make sure that you had an income :o
