Dear All,

I intend to spend a few days in Loei province aorund X-mas this year. I would like to hear from anyone who can recommend a nice, quiet resort with good food/wine in a nice natural location to spend a few days. Price is not very important.

Thanks.

P.S. done a search but can't find what I need

Try Chiang Khan, Kheng Kut Koo, not sure about the wine though, but location by the Menam Khong is sublime

Are they names of villages or resorts?

I was hoping for something a bit more upmarket, but if not available I will try the earlier suggestions.

In Loei "Upmarket" would mean the people and the vistas' find a nice hotel and enjoy the latter.

There is a reasonable sized hotel in Loei city but outside you will be very limited. There are some resorts to the west around Phuu Rerr_a on the western side of Phuu Khradung.

Kaen Kut Koo is just outside of Chiang Karn just carry on the main road through town going north (Pak Chong) and you will see it sign posted.

Think you will need to go to Khon Kaen or Chiang Mai before you get very upmarket

I recall several years ago seeing some ads in the Thai press for a new upscale resort in Loei. It seemed to me it was at least 3 if not 4 star in quality...from the pics, it looked really plush. I don't recall the name but using one of the Thai hotel booking engines, you should be able to find it as these sites generally cover the more plush hotels in an area pretty throughly.

Not quite an answer to your question but, if you end up spending a day or two in Loei City, the main options are as follows:

(1) Loei Palace Hotel - nice modern hotel across a park and river from the City centre and a bit of a walk to restaurants etc. More expensive than Khon Kaen's Sofitel, without the same level of refinement.

(2) King's Hotel. In city centre and very convenient for shopping and nightlife. This is a few notches down from the Palace, but has clean pleasant rooms. The bathrooms, however, only have Thai-style showers.

Failing this there are two or three other reasonable Thai-style hotels within sight of the King's hotel, Have stayed in one which was okay but forget the name. These are just a notch down from the King's Hotel.
