Joint Bank Account - "thai Wife" Visa

Featured Replies

Hi,

Just looking around for infos or advices.

A friend of mine is going to ask his first 1 year extension, based on "married to a Thai". New rules implied 40.000 bahts/month which he will never reach by himself, or 400.000 bahts on a thai bank account.

Would a joint bank account (with his wife) ok for immigration officers (in BKK)?

the same rule was used before, maybe some of you experienced this...

Thanks in advance for any input

Ben

I would say yes.

But it would be immigration that would have to answer the question in order for it to definitive. And only the immigration office where the application is going to be made.

The money also has to be in the bank 2 months before the date of application.

I remember having seen several threads about a joint account being accepted or not. Use the search function.

I did it, keestha, and only found "retirement visa" stuff, for which the rules or application of the rules are a little bit different.

A search would not give the answer as different immigration offices have different ideas about it. The OP’s friend should inquire at his local immigration office.

Thanks, Maestro. It seems obvious, you are right.... We are talking about suan plu in BKK, and 2 officers gave 2 different answers.....

So my first thought was right. I was going to write “different immigration officers” but then decided that probably within one office all officers would use the same parameters.
