Any clues for this issue? -

I am running XP, SP2, Dual Core and 3 GB RAM

My computer is quite "old" - about 1 1/2 years in service.

Sometime yesterday when I worked it took a long time until I could click on something.

In the moment it was possible the computer sounded a single system peep (like the one you hear on firing-up your system)

This morning I started my computer and during boot sequence I received the "blue screen of death" which informed that

something has prevented the computer form starting and Windows has shut down. No specific error was given, only an "address" which might

be a memory issue.

I turned off the computer, started again and everything was running as it should, except the system clock was almost 1 1/2 hours behind the actual time.

In the event log I found the error message:

"Source: Dhcp

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.

The bugcheck was: 0x1000007e (0xc0000005, 0x804f0304, 0xbad07a68, 0xbad07764)".

Experts, what might have caused this issue? An almost empty battery (was told they last up to 5 years)?

I personally suspect the culprit are my 2 external Maxtor HDD's back-up drives which are connected via USB.

Is it possible to determine the culprit?

Any opinion is very much appreciated.

I think the error message kind of speaks for itself "Source: Dhcp". I would assume that the DHCP client running as a windows service threw a wobbly and the services host looking at the action to perform on the failure of this particular service went ahead a rebooted the machine.

If its a one off, I wouldn't worry about it. If it happens often it would maybe be worth investigating.
