For me to see its has been getting harder and more complicated to stay in Thailand since i first came here in 2003. I remember the good old days when all that was needed, was a monthly visa run. Now i need to go out of Thailand and get a new multiply entry 2x 3months visa. Where is it easiest to do that? And what kind of a flight ticket do they require?

What about that income of 65.000 monthly for a retiree( i will be 50 in just over a year) does this still apply without any new complications, meaning all i need to show is 65.000 income or a combined bankaccount+ income, all in all 800.000 a year? In this case wich papaers must i produce?

Finally i am getting to feel like many others, i want to stay in Asia, but why not Laos, Cambodia or the Philippines, they are all nice and cheap places? They also have much cheaper visas and easier uncomplicated rules. Seems Thailand is making life so hard for foreigners that many may consider a move to a more hospitable country?

Wish you all a merry X-Mas and a prosperious new year, Erik

Vientiane is the best place. No tickets needed. Don't try to do it on a Monday. The way things are now the best day may be Wed. but always get there early. It would be best to go a day early and spend the night before and be there by 7:30 to get in line.

Don't plan on doing it next week because they are going to closed from the 31st to the 4th. The 29th is the only day that you can apply next week and get your passport back before the 5th. You can be sure the 5th and 6th are going to be bad days.

See the last few pages of this 30 page topic for good info: http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/Vientiane-La...sa-t158561.html

No changes on retirement visa other than for the first application you only need money in bank for 2 months instead of 3. Proof of income by way of a letter from embassy/consulate. Letter from bank confirming account balance and bank book for the money option.

Thanks very much Ubonjoe,,.So even if i almost used up my re-entry 2x3 months visa. i will still not get any problems getting a 2x3 months visa at Vientiane? And does it always take few days to receive the passport back, even if i apply wednesday in a normal week?

ok so after the first 2 months are gone, i am sure to get 30 days at immigration in Pattaya? even if my embassy said i had 3 entries? and should make a border run after each entry to get additional 30 days ?

It is not a problem to get a 30 day extension at immigration.

You would only get 15 days if you did a border run. By air it is 30.

Not sure what your embassy meant or what their knowledge of Thai immigration would be.

Well the guy at the embassy in Iceland, told me i could get a 3 entry visa. Get 2 months at airport and then 1 month at the border, then 2 months at the border again and at last 1 month at the border again, i accepted this, but since then they now only give 15 days at the border, but is that even if i hold that visa? after after all this i would have to travel to f.ex Vientiane to get a new one.

With a tourist visa you get 60 day when you enter Thailand. With a 3 entry, you can come to Thailand 3 times and each time get 60 days.

Each entry of 60 days can be exetnded with 30 days by going to an immigration office and paying 1,900 baht.

You have to get the extension at immigration.

If you leave and come back at the end of 60 days they would use the next entry of the visa not give you a 30 day entry and you would loose the 30 days you could of gotten at immigration.

I don't know what the guy at the embassy was on about but he was wrong.

If you had a 3 entry tourist visa you could enter at airport do 60+30 do a border run 60+30 thne do a border run 60+30 before the use before date of visa giving a total of almost 9 months.

Don't forget that your visa has an expire date, it says soemthing like use before ****. If you want to make use of all your entries you have to enter Thailand on the last entry before that date.

1. If you do try a border run you will have to watch the expiry date on your visa.

Your second entry MUST be before the visa stamp in your passport expires.

2. The immigration officer may be unhappy to give you a visa exempt stamp when

you have a valid visa in your passport. As already noted you will only get 15 days

at the land border for visa exempt entry.
