I would like to buy a new desktop and i was thinking to upgrade from the current 2 monitor that i'm using to 3 with one always connectet to a webtv.

Is that possible and how?

Do i need 2 card video?

Any place where i can get a decent configuration?

Cheers

The easiest way would be to buy a PC with 2 16X PCIe slots, the ones normally used to put 2 videocards in SLI mode.

Stick 2 video cards in, and you can hook up 4 monitors.

Or buy a single video card with 4 monitor outputs.

A good overview of multi monitor (both 2 and 4) capable card

Good overview here:

Thank you very much, however i never heard of those video card, any advice where to find them in Bangkok? Fortune tower or Pantip plaza?

As i'm in the process of buying a new desktop do you advice the card with the 4 outputs or 2 video cards?

Which is also the best option considering the price in your opinion?

Thank you very much indeed for your help.

Most all of those listed are workstation level cards. As far as availability in Thailand, good luck.

His first suggestion was good; also if you currently have an ATI card, just look for a cheap ATI card that fits in a PCI slot. Same-same if you've got Nvidia. You don't need to run two of the same chipset. You could run the dual PCI-E, but with the PCI cards being cheap as chips and you not needing a ton of horsepower on your third monitor, why do that?

If the output of the graphic card has a 3 different port on it can i use 3 different monitor regardless each single monitor has just 2 ports (DVI and VGA) on it?

I'm on a dual 22" setup and can't imagine how another monitor could benefit. How big should they be?

I know one guy who has three huge Apple comuters sitting next to each other and a fourth one on top of them on some sort of a rail so he can move it from left to right. It works like one big desktop but consisting of four computers.

I am guessing that's one MacPro and 4 monitors. The Mac Pro supports up to 8 screens.

Nice set up!

I saw a documentary about Terry Pratchett, the author. He has six monitors on a rack. When people ask him why he has six monitors, he tells them because he doesn't have enough room for eight.

In desktop publishing/prepress it is standard to work with 2 monitors

Working with 3 screens in this business is nothing unusual. I've seen work stations with 4 monitors each as well

Back on topic does anyone know how to do it exactly?

You just need 2 graphics cards - if you're not playing games then no need to go for anything expensive. Just check how your monitors connect to the PC - DVI or VGA - and ensure you get cards with the right connections.

Also, if you're using Vista, you might get driver problems if you use 2 different types of cards so best to get cards with are identical or at least from the same series (not sure if this was fixed in W7).

And use UltraMon to manage your 3 monitors.
