I have a Honda Civic that I plan to sell and get myself a new Accord.

But the way the world economy is going i'm seriously in doubt. The exchange rates aren't helping either.

I have checked prices in Pattaya and compared with other provinces and although the official prices don't vary the "cash-back" amount and free items do.

Example:

Pattaya Honda - One year free insurance, 5000 baht cash-back, 5 free items (from the accessories catalogue).

Sakaew Honda - One year free insurance, 30000 baht cash-back, 10 free items.

I am wondering if also the official prices will go down as demand for new cars drops?

But then again, all car manufacturers are cutting their production capacities.

Ideas anyone?

Yes, I was given a much better deal by Toyota Khon Kaen than I could have got at Toyota Pattaya.

I bought a Fortuner and Pattaya didn't even have a test driver and was told it was a 6 months wait at the time, I was in Khon Kaen a few weeks later and went to the Toyota dealership there and they had a test driver in, so I had a test drive and as I was paying cash, I managed to pick up the Fortuner I wanted the very next day.

Plus they threw in all the extras, Pattaya Toyota told me that they could not have offered me the same ammount in extras.

I went to Honda Pattaya once to enquire about some prices and there was a young guy that speaks good English there who was OK and friendly, the others couldn't seem to care less.

Much better service is to be had in other provinces in my opinion.

I think for sure new car price are going down, but then you have to expect secon hand car to follow so if you wait the different between old and new maybe near anyway.

I don't think the official prices will go down, but the cash back, free extras and interest rates may. If your not in a hurry then wait, but it's a catch 22 because the trade in on the second hand car will also go down.

The deals you've been offered don't sound that great. We went to Isuzu and Toyota and were offered more (but were looking for pick ups).

I do not think the prices will go down on new cars, look around and you will see many new cars with red plates so they must still be selling ok. you may get more extras thrown in if you push for them and you will probably have to try other locations as well.

4 months ago I sold my 2 liter civic it was the 2006 model and bought the new accord as well. it was a good move for me and I am very happy with the accord. at that time it cost 1,250.000. and I just had the usual extras thrown in like tinting on windows, floor mats, AUX thingy for ipod, 1 years free insurance.

when I sold my civic I was lazy and did it through the dealer and was told I would get 720k for it, that was ok for me s I did not want to wait and sell it private. but on the day they tried to give my 680k. I did not except that and Honda got the guy to give 700k and they swallowed the other 20k. I would try to sell private next time as I could of got more for it.

then when I collected the new accord the tryes were not inflated right, one was like 40PSI and the other around 28PSI, and when I asked them to re-do the tryes before driving it off they said cannot because the machanic had gone home. the tint started pealing off the windscreen and they forgot to put the AUX thingy for ipod in. so I took it back and when they put the aux in they had manage to burn the center consol so there was scorch marks on it!!!! dont know what they did, but anyway, its all been replaced and the car is great. I just do not think I will sell my car through a dealer again.

We went to Isuzu and Toyota in Pattaya to get our truck and they offered nothing like the deal we got in Nangrong. Even stuff like a full tank of fuel was included, discounts were better but we got more because they failed to deliver when we agreed.

In the end, taking your car to a garage is all about the total cost to change the vehicle, not just how much you can get for it.

Thanks for the info!

My car is also Civic 2.0 liter and bought new in Sept. 2006.

When I went to the Honda and Toyota dealers with it they offered me 650,000 baht, That's not enough for me.

Good to hear that you are satisfied with your Accord though :o
