As one travels around Thailand it is not uncommon to see 'Gentlemen' on the roads edge relieving themselves. I guess its a case of when you've gotta go, you've gotta go?

Today, whilst motoring in a built up area, where there was no shortage of people moving about both in their vehicles and on foot, I drove upon a Police checkpoint, where there was a dozen men in brown stopping motorcycles. All standard stuff really, but I couldnt help but notice the Police Officer in the middle of the check point on the side of the road relieving himself on a small bush. I was SLIGHTLY surprised by his proud display as he made no effort to conceal himself as he watered the greenery, grinning away like a 'Cheshire Cat' :D .

I guess this is just another example of the 'Mai Pben Rai' attitude OR is it becoming fully acceptable here to display ones SLUG in a public place? :o

"SLUG"??

Haven't heard that term before.

But I always think as long as your "SLUG" is unleashed by the roadside and flanked by bush on either side, then all should be fine.

I am amazed at the amount of people that read topics then post the word 'TROLL'. Is that the best you can come up with? My point to the topic was, in my part of the world, you would most likely be issued with a court attendance notice by the Police if you did this type of thing, but here, dispite thai people being relatively modest about nudity and that type of thing, the COPS are openly having a slash in the middle (or the edge) of a busy street. I find this strange behaviour by one of Thailands representatives. Nothing trollish about this at all?

As for the reason why I looked, I can only indicate it was a bit hard to miss, I can live without it....or are you trying to suggest something else?

Once. whilst driving in Bangkok I got to the point where I just could not wait.

Thankfully I was right outside a petrol station, "I'll use the toilets here I thought"

Well the toilets where being refurbished and left with no other choice I went to a discreet location at the side of the building, only for the station manager to come running after me saying that I could not relieve myself there and that I had to use a restaurant just up the road.

I walked almost cross leggedly up the road only to see that the said restaurant was closed, forcing me to return to the secluded part of the building I was at before. Again the manager was going crazy at me, even threatening to call the police. I tried to reason with him but to no avail, and by now I was desperate and so said "Call the police mate, I'm having a whazz regardless", he started dialling.

I remember that evening well because the managers lack of reasoning was unforgettable. I was out of sight, not bothering anybody by any stretch of the imagination and there where no Buddha shrines or anything else in the area that might offend.

I never did find out whether or not he really did call the police as when I finished I got back into my car and drove off. But even if he did call the police and they arrived whilst I was still having a tinkle, asides from maybe seeing an opportunity to make a couple of hundred Baht or so would the police really have cared? After all when you've gotta go, you JUST...HAVE...TO...GO.

me thinks now, that you're quite some funny guy - with quite some funny views and attitude... calling out for justice, the law, sending someone to court for having a leak... :D

Next time just look away... !

Pissing in public is nothing new here and if it startled you then you need to get out more. The funny thing is that, as you imply, you saw his slug. Thais have a way of peeing but never showing their "slug".

You think Thais are not good..... :D

Goto Vietnam and see public display of watering the greenery :o

Goto India and see both watering and additional fertilizer (spelling?) in a city like Mumbai :D

Yes its truely a professional image for a Police Officer...he should be proud of himself! My mistake :P . Anyway its time for me to take a dump, what corner should I do it on? :D

There's a popular one in Juhu (a posh area of Mumbai) near our digs, usually a new 'monument' each morning :D Never actually seen the person who lays this particular cable.

Sadly this is a problem when there is a large urban population of poor people with no sanitation facilities, perhaps India should invest more in fixing this problem rather than sending missions to 'land' (at 150kph) on the moon.

Just be happy it is Thai custom to water the greenery along side the roadways. Many a time I have almost pissed my pants, in the US where you have to pay for toilets or just can't find any in time.

Makes driving a much more enjoyable pleasure, when you can hang your uly out, and Thai piss freely most anywhere you please. While in Thailand, do as the Thais do- :D

Whilst being in LoS and you're out for some experience try Erawan or simply Siam...

A few months ago we drove my elderly mother to Bangkok to see about a hip replacement op. at the Yanhee.

As we approached the Victory Monument (for those who don't know, this is an extremely busy traffic island with about 6 exits and the Skytrain and elevated walkways overhead) we had to stop for a red light.

While we waited there was a lady trimming the shrubs in the centre of the road, just ahead of our car.

Suddenly, she dropped her pants and stooped to pee, bottom hovering an inch above the grass, giving us the full moon show. Before the lights changed to green, she stood and dressed herself then carried on without any apparent embarassment.

Mother laughed "I could never do that".

Quick as a flash Mrs Chickenslegs says "Maybe after the hip operation Mama"

Reason for edit - speling agin

That's was the only sensible remark in your topic. As long you do it in a discrete way it is fully acceptable. Men before the tree women behind the tree :D

They're normally so small, you would'nt notice them. Maybe that's why they're called "slugs" :o
