Spiny
My wife is bipolar and needs a good psychiatrist who specialises in this disorder. Please advise. try Srithanya Hospital on Tiwanon Road, http://www.srithanya.go.th/ in Bangkok/ Nonthaburi or Dr Kitti at Samitivej Sukhumvit Soi 49 Bkk he has been treating my wife for 3 years and has her stabilized. Good luck, I think there is a need for a support group for all the suffering spouses of bipolar wifes

Sheryl
Samitivej and Bangkok Hospitals both have well-regarded psych departments There is also a new private psych hospital in Bkk called Manarom. I haven't heard any first hand feedback on it but it was established by Thai Psychiatrist trained in the West. http://www.manarom.com/history_eng.html
Neeranam
Samitivej has a good reputation. There is a great doctor at Phayathai 2, near Victory monument.
mrtoad
My wife is bipolar and needs a good psychiatrist who specialises in this disorder. Please advise. How did you come to this conclusion? Since you have already made the diagnosis, you should be able to handle the treatment as well. Maybe she already has a diagnosis? Don't jump to a conclusion like that so quickly. It maight be useful if the OP gives a location as well. As mentioned, there are several places that offer Psychiatrists, I'd recommend seeing a Psychiatrist that has had some training in the west. As for treatment, depending on the medication, it is very tricky working out doseage, and a lot of this needs careful monitoring, so not a silly question. I looked up the disease on WebMD and a few other websites. I took the assessment as an observer and my wife took it as well. It points to bipolar disorder. The shrink put her on Depakine so he must have agreed. Actually he did agree.
Sheryl
Samitivej has a good reputation. There is a great doctor at Phayathai 2, near Victory monument. Neeranam, could you provide details (name, hospital or clinic location)? This thread has generated some useful recommendations and as this problem arises often, I will pin it once we have all available recommendations for pyschiatrists specializing in this disorder. It is a very difficult condition to live with for both the patient and family, anywhere in the world. I find it even worse in Asia due to generally low awareness on the part of the general population of psychiatric illnesses, which in turns often results in poor compliance with medication and lack of understanding on the part of relatives. If anyone knows of a support group for Thais with this problem, or source of information in Thai to exaplin the condition in lay terms, please post details. Thanks!
