Waverider
"The aftershocks can be expected to last for several weeks, says McGuire, although experts are confident that there will not be another tsunami." No more tsunami From the top people in the field of seismology FWIW

Waverider
I worded the link wrong... I think what they are getting at is that there won't be any more tsunami as a result of this event or the 50 or so aftershocks that have occured since, or the many aftershocks to come over the weeks. If another "great" earthquake strikes, sure there could be another tsunami. If they issued a tsunami warning for every aftershock magnitude 5.0 or greater, we would have had 50 or so false alarms already, and situation far more chaotic than currently exists. Waverider
555, actually I have used this nickname for several years in another forum and have it on a few other places. I'm a really bad surfer, the nick actually has to do with something else entirely from surfing or any jetski or even water. Cheers.

Erwin1011
My concern now is, that every action has a reaction... and what reaction can we expect from this most recent action? And when? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> The friction pressure between the Indian plate and the Burma plate is the action. the reaction is the Indian plate shoving a 10-30m further under the Burma plate, lifting this plate slightly up. This movement caused the wave. the after tremors are adjustments along the fault lines to this. At least IMHO. am not a seismologist.
