It is strictly basic hospital insurance. Traditionally, life issurance companies only sell basic health insurance as a rider on life insurance policies. This is a life insurance rider broken free from the constraints of the life insurance policy. I understand that 2 life insurance companies have been authorized to do this now. But I have only seen them selling life insurance, basically trying to offer better return rates than bank interest. Check the print very carefully as to exactly what you are getting; knowing the bank tellers very well they were all whispering to me about their targets, maybe heads are on the block. ThaivisaInsurance
This whole topic raises the question, why even think about buying insurance from a place where they do not understand anything about it and can only offer one product ? Banks are not Brokers, they have one companies product to sell – even if it is not the correct or best product for the individual. They sell insurance mainly due to the fact the average person thinks "banks – they understand money therefore they must understand insurance" ………………. sorry not true ! We have always said to find yourself a licensed Broker to work with as not only can they offer the choice of all the different insurance companies and their products , they can also explain the small print and help should there be a conflict with the insurance company. And the best bit ???? it's FREE to the customer – now what's better than that Thai Visa Insurance

As you know the bigger the umbrella of the insurance company often the better the service or coverage is.
ThaivisaInsurance
As you know the bigger the umbrella of the insurance company often the better the service or coverage is. Unfortunately a misconception ! There are examples of small Insurance companies who (almost) only specialise in motor policies, sell a great deal of them and give superb service. Then there are some of the biggest companies who's main business are in fields such as Fire, Marine, Commercial etc. who have a very small motor base and their service is no where near as good as the smaller company ! ThaivisaInsurance
Marcus May we suggest you read the original post - before the TV Ins reply - to put it in context ?
samran
Are we talking about the SCB-New York Life insurance policy? If it is that one, then it isn't bad. My old firm had it for staff (in and out patient) and it usually covered the cost to visit a GP at Samitvej or Bamrungrad no problems. Good levels of inpatient coverage as I recall. It partially covered my wifes maternity fees as well up to 45,000 baht. In terms of value for money, I can't be sure as I didn't pay for it. marcus
Marcus May we suggest you read the original post - before the TV Ins reply - to put it in context ? Yes, I did and I believe you that your product is less worse as the Siam Bank's product. The thing is, if you buy an insurance - probably without really understanding what is covered and not - you might sooner or later end up in a position that you realize that you are not insured any more, simply because you have reached the limit of what is covered. Do you really think that everyone clearly understands what your Policy Benefits mean ? People just tend to go for the cheapest solution and will easily believe that these cheap packages have the same coverage as in their home country. I'm very happy that this situation happened to me. The day I arrived in Thailand, I asked our local broker for a quote for a very good insurance which covers the most serious problems. She came up with an AIA insurance she thought was perfect for me, so I signed up. 6 months later I broke my ankle. Hospital bill was paid directly by AIA, so no problem. Fortunately, the butcher who calls himself a surgeon, made a big professional mistake, so I went to another hospital for a second operation. There we found out that AIA would only pay half of the costs, because I already reached the limit for that year. And we are talking about a miserable 80.000 thb now (if I remember well) So, thanks to a broken ankle and a stupid surgeon, I learned my lesson, and returned back to the good old social insurance of my home country. OK, it costs a bit more, but at least I know that me and my family are well insured.
