We are living in CM and plan to have a holiday in Phuket. Can anyone recommend a cheap bus company or train journey as the domestic flights are quite expensive and of course the British pound is devaluing at a rapid rate. We plan to fly back - any cheap recommendations? Thank you all.

1.there is only 1 direct flight FROM CNX-and not back, by THAI=not cheap. the only cheap way to fly is AirAsia/book both sectors a long time advance and plan enough of time for the transfer=new check in at BKK/Swampy.

2.are you serious about the really cheapest way? thats TRAIN/3d class=hard wooden seats, to BKK and then to SURAT-both sectors about 150 THB each, then local bus 3d cl (if they still run there) onward. Besides; Phuket is about the most expensive seaside resort-so if youre serious about the GBP and required cost-cutting: it would save much, much more by choosing some other resort closer by or on a more basic level. More endurable would be the daytime sprinter train or the VIP-bus to BKK/daytime and then an overnight train/bus combo, or direct VIP bus from BKk's new SaiTHai -someone advised there is 1 company from CMai/Arcade that sends a bus to HuahHin that also stops at Sai Thai-but then you would have 2 nightbuses and a day to spend in BKK-and that SaiTHai is some 15 kms away from the ''centre'' of BKK here. all traintickets can be booked-also for other sectors, at the CNX train station. AirAsia-if you hit one of their promotions-is often hardly more as a luxury 999 VIP-bus or train/AC-2nd cl sleeper with additional bus.

How about Sombat Tour bus direct to Hua Hin (about 785 baht) and then bus it from there? If you do the bus to Mochit, you'll then need to mess with taxis/tuk tuks to get to the southern terminal

Stay at Kata or Kata Noi beaches, giving Patong a wide berth; or give Phuket a wide berth and simply stay in Hua Hin, a much nicer experince than fuket. :o

That SOMBAT tour bus-to Hua Hin, and also stops at Sai Thai here in BKK-is just the 1 I mentioned. Also-as one might expect who is not just used to ChMai transport-there are direct buses and minivans Mochit2-SaiThai. Tuktuks wont even go that far anyway. ''Messing'' with taximeters just means telling where you want to go-not that big a deal it seems to me.

With AirAsia don't do what I did yesterday.

I drove down to CMX airport and bought two round trip tickets form CM to Bangkok. All was well I thought.

I paid my roughly 8000 baht and left. Then when I arrived home I knew I made a mistake on the return date. I told the pretty girl the 20th I meant the 21st

So, I thought like any changes I have done on domestic flights on Thai Air they would just change it. NOOOOOOOO it was a 1100 baht fine to change. I told the lady it was only one hour ago and I made a mistake. She said "sorry". I paid but thought, next time I will pay more attention to what I am doing.

It's kind of crapy really, but rules are rules so pay attention.
